WTB: R40 or something similar

#1 Post by Raine » Sun May 17, 2009 9:46 am

Ok this is going to sound kinda weird but I'm going to try this anyway.

The screen on my Mom's R40 is cracked and she really likes the feel of the older ThinkPads and with what she does online a real fancy laptop isn't needed. I'm not familiar or really up to figuring out how to change the screen right now, it seems kinda complicated for a novice anyway from the clips I've seen on YouTube.

What I'm looking for is an R40 similar to the working one in my signature or something a bit better that I can pop my Mom's old hard drive into it. So whatever is offered doesn't have to include the hard drive as long as the ThinkPad is compatible with the hard drive from my Mom's old R40. I'm hoping to find something in decent condition without much cosmetic damage for around $225.

If possible I was wondering if I could also use the old CDRW drive that's in my Mom's R40 in whatever is offered if that would reduce the costs at all.

Thanks!

If a 14" would do send me an email at bboraxjr@aol.com.

Perhaps a trade is possible.

I can get you one of those for that price no problem. I could even do free shipping. Most likely blemish free as well. PM me if you're interested.

BTW, on ebay I am bcomputerconsulting if you want a more reputable name.

The R50 might be worth a look too. The screen replacement isn't isn't too tough. You can consult the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the R40, which shows how to do it. Also visit Lenovo's Service and Support Training site. It has videos which document how to do each step. While the R40 is not there, the R60 is, which shouldn't be to dissimilar. Between that and the HMM, it should be fairly painless to figure out if you're interested.

I'm not really interested in a trade right now.
