600E w/CD-Burner/max ram

#1 Post by farna » Sun May 17, 2009 7:37 pm

*EDIT 05/23-09: If anyone is interested make me an offer! I hate to see it go to Goodwill or parted out. Will cost about $15 to ship in the US parcel post insured -- I'll pay anything over $15. Send me an e-mail with an offer!

I've decided to sell my 600E that I've been using for traveling as an Internet/e-mail machine. I'd like to get $100 plus shipping (actual shipping cost) for the whole set-up. I retired from the USAF and don't travel much anymore, plus my wife wants a desktop to replace her P3 laptop, which will then be used on the occasion I do travel and want/need a computer. Details and photos below. I'll be happy to answer any additional questions, just send me an e-mail (farna AT att.net).

The bad:
Trackpoint doesn't work. I changed the bios to not look for it when booting. Works great with a ps/2 mouse with no boot errors. One of the latches are broken, but that's never been a problem. The tray cover on the optical drive isn't an exact match for the Thinkpad case, but it's black and doesn't look bad. Case shows a little wear, but it's been well taken care of!

The good:
* Maxed out with the fastest PII the 600E supports (366 MHz) and the max RAM (BIOS reports 294336K at boot, XP reports 288MB).
* 12GB hard drive.
* No dead pixels or other screen problems.
* Runs XP with no problems (I've been running XP Pro). It boots a bit slower with XP, but runs faster than Win98SE once booted.
* Optical drive is a Lite-On LSC-24082k combo CD/DVD player & CD-burner. Plays DVD movies fine using PowerDVD XP (version 4 -- newer versions don't work on these older machines!). Also plays DIVx movies. PowerDVD4 and a DIVx player are loaded on the HD. I use Nero for burning photo CDs when traveling. PowerDVD 4 CD will be included.
* Comes with two batteries. One I got with the computer when I bought it in 2002. It lasts for about 30 minutes when fully charged. The other I bought around 2005 new and lasts around 1 hour fully charged. Times are when using the internet/e-mail with a hard line connection (ethernet). I typically use the computer plugged into the wall with the battery out, but occasionally use it with one of the batteries to keep them up.
* An IBM PC-card ethernet card is included with dongle.
* I'll also include a Targus carry case and a PS/2 optical mouse (no adapter needed!).
* External power supply and cables are of course included!

Everything except PowerDVD4 CD and Ethernet card/dongle shown in photos.

As per the new forum FS rule #11: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=17028
11. ANY thinkpad offered for sale with anything other than the original OS as shipped MUST state whether there is an original CD containing that OS and that it goes with that thinkpad. ALSO, if any additional software is offered as part of the sale the original media or license key MUST come with that thinkpad and the listing for that thinkpad MUST say as much.

I don't have the original XP CD. I do have the Power DVD 4 CD and it will be included. The DIVx player and other software included are free downloads.

well you will have to wipe the hard drive out before you can sell it. unless you have a xp coa on the bottom of it and the cd it has to be wiped out

No problem! I'll wipe the drive. Modified the listing to say it runs XP.
