TXX Lot of 51 Laptops on Ebay
Has anyone ever considered buying something like this?
http://tinyurl.com/mjwzye
I was just thinking it could be a nice group buy or something.

Re: TXX Lot of 51 Laptops on Ebay
Only briefly considered it before. I would expect to buy a lot of laptops at a price considerable lower than individual ones, but those lots usually sell for almost as much as a single one would go for. And the one your looking at is likely to contain a bunch of non-functional units with GPU problems. The bidding is already higher than I would consider paying for the lot.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

Re: TXX Lot of 51 Laptops on Ebay
I bought one lot of 13 T41/T42/T43 machines. All were supposed to be complete and pulled from a working environment.
I received 13 T40/T41/T42 machines. All had loose GPU's and other issues.
I had them all repaired and eventually sold them. It took months and I won't do it again. (The seller did credit me back 50% of the auction amount.)
If you've got patience and some time on your hands, now and long into the future, go for it!

Re: TXX Lot of 51 Laptops on Ebay
Well, after nearly an additional $1,000 in repairs, hard drives, memory, etc., and several months of slowly working on the machines in what little spare time I had, there was a small profit. However, if you factor in my time, even at a modest rate, it was quite a losing proposition. There was, of course, a theraputic value. For now, I'm cured. With 50+ machines, as in the auction above, I'd need another type of therapy.

Your therapy was worth it. That T42 I bought from you during your cure is a great addition to our computer collection. Thanks, Ed!underclocker wrote:Well, after nearly an additional $1,000 in repairs, hard drives, memory, etc., and several months of slowly working on the machines in what little spare time I had, there was a small profit. Another $6,000 in Aspirin/Tylenol/Motrin will be spent unless it's a money laundering operation...

That is so true! The "winner" of that auction better have their bifocals checked, they're going to need them!ajkula66 wrote:Another $6,000 in Aspirin/Tylenol/Motrin will be spent unless it's a money laundering operation...
Did you see the way they were palletized? That lot is a bounty of GPU issues and scuffed LCD's. I hope the forum members stayed away from that one!
The "winner" might want to bid on another auction by the same seller, these might come in handy after during the evaluation and testing phase --> http://cgi.ebay.com/_W0QQitemZ330336811240
