Given that it's worth what someone is prepared to buy it for, put it on e-bay. That's the only way to know.

You're probably better off keeping that machine at current prices...

Given the description, I doubt that you'll break $500 mark...

I agree with George.....especially since you can easily find perfectly good T61's for $500 or even less.

There's an R61 on PDX CL right now for 250 or best offer.

I just bought a T61 15" wxsga on 6/27 to replace my wife's failed T41....$500 for a virtually brand-new machine. Guy bought it at the end of 2007, then went into the hospital a month later and never came out. His family just put his stuff up for sale in June. Looks and acts brand-new in every way.

A quick perusal of Craigslist shows many other T61's for 500 or less

I detest epay, so I wouldn't put my TP up for auction myself, but I -do- use epay for discovering price in a different way...

Search epay CLOSED auctions only. That tells you what something actually sold for recently.

Second, and the technique I usually use, is to simply do a national Craigslist search....which is easily done with Google advanced-search.

Go to the google adv-search page, put in your search term(s), put 'classifieds' in the 'exclude' field (so you don't get any hits of CL 'category list' pages), put 'craigslist.org' in the 'domain' field...hit go.

Now you've got a list of every T61 in the world currently listed on CL. Many times the hit-text itself will contain the asking-price.....but for other hits you have to open the page. I just keep right-clicking and hitting 'open in new tab' on every hit that looks valid for my interest.

CL-ads are of course -asking- prices, not 'sold' prices....but you can figure that actual selling price is usually 70-100% of the ask.

Fwiw, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for a T61 with a broken hinge, bad battery, and Vista-home....especially without a HD.

Also always bear in mind that laptop prices drop every week, continuously.....so holding 'firm' for a 'premium' price almost never works out.

hope that helps a bit...

Kind of morbid don't you think? It's tough to sell anything these days, especially notebooks with the way notebook prices have been dropping. I sold my R60 on eBay a few months back. I was surprised I got $400 for it. It was a 30 day auction on eBay. I figured it wasn't going to sell, but at 29 days and 22 hours someone bought it. I guess I got lucky. Maybe if you can fix the hinge if it's not too expensive. You may not get more for it, but it may increase the chances it'll sell if it's not already broken.

morbid.... :P :P .....never thought about it that way, but yeah, in a way.

On the other hand, his family needed to sell the stuff, and we needed a laptop, so no big deal.

yup, it's a buyer's market now, in almost every field.....and likely to remain so for some years.

yep,.. except for buying yield... 2-yr treasuries are bid down to less than 1%; 10-yr treasuries at 3.3%, triple-A corporates way down too... as millions line up to buy a guaranteed yield.

But this too shall pass... probably a good trade now is to short the treasuries (TBT on NYSE)
