I bought a few new Lenovo T61s from a local sale. The specs of the laptops are not high. But, the price is really good and they are brand new in box. Those laptops do NOT have Windows loaded with them, perfect for Linux users. The T61s carry a 3-year manufacture warranty. I will sell two of those for $450 each + UPS shipping in the US (non-cc paypal or money order). I prefer selling those to the folks whom I knew in the forum.
The laptop type is 7661 JE1
14.1 WXGA
Intel Core 2 Due T7100 1.8Ghz
1GB PC2-5300 ( I can upgrade the memory to 3GB for $30)
PC DOS Lincese (no Windows)
80GB (I can upgrade the HD to a new 500GB WD for $90)
DVD Burner
Intel Mdeia X3100
Wireless 3945 ABG
6 Cell Battery.
The AC adapter in the package is not in a US version.
I will open the package and switch out the AC adapter for a genuine US version adapter.
If you prefer the package unopened, you will get the original AC adapter included in the package (non-US version).

Just found out those carry a 3-year warranty till 2012-08-08. Not 1-year as mentioned above.

Pardon my nitpicking

but how would the 3-year warranty be valid till 08/2012, when it is not even 08/2009 yet?

When you buy a NEW laptop, most manufactures give their customers a grace period of 1-2 months. In this case, it indicates those laptops left lenovo factory a short time ago.

The T61 has not been made for almost a year, which means the date of manufacture is sometime in 2008. The warranty runs from the date of manufacture. The only way to confirm the warranty status is to enter the model number and serial number on the Lenovo warranty lookup page. It is possible to get the the warranty start re-set to the date of sale to the Original Retail Purchaser but be prepared for a frustrating and drawn out experience (I know, I've been there).

That's how I get the expire date.

By the way, how do you know that?

Absolutely NOT with either IBM or Lenovo.
It runs from the shipping date, often giving a few weeks more than a year to the buyer.

Depends on how you buy it I guess. If you don't buy directly from them, but from a reseller, the warranty will already start ticking while the laptop is in the reseller's warehouse. Then, when you actually buy it (which can be half a year or more later), you just send them the invoice, and they reset the warranty to count from the date of the purchase. This way you get the full three years of warranty, but not a day more. And in any case I find it highly unlikely that laptops that have already been shipped to a customer who is not an authorized reseller, will have "3 year warranty" for more than 3 years.
I find it more likely that the laptops were indeed manufactured in 2008 (these are not even Penryns), and come with a 4-year warranty. Might even be 5-year warranty from 2007.

More than likely seller has NOS, "new old stock".
Perhaps a clarification about production date would help?

The Lenovo description of a 7661-JE1 lists "DVD" as opposed, for example, to the description of a 7658-18U listing "CDRW/DVDRW". Is the included optical drive a DVD burner?

Shipping data from China. Usually within a few days of manufacture. But if the Lenovo warranty lookup page says the warranty starts next month then I guess that's when the warranty starts!
