WTB: Flush-fitting PCMCIA or Express Card reader

I'm looking for an flush-fitting Express or PCMCIA card reader for my current lappy.

I see a couple on Fleabay but they ship from China. It takes forever to get to my eager hands and I'd rather watch paint dry than wait that long!

I just got a DVDCDRW today so my barebones R52 is starting to take shape!



It also has to support SDHC as I have an 8Gb SD card!

I'm wondering if the express card adapter is even worth it. It should have a higher transfer rate but for my use it wouldn't really matter. With the PCMCIA card I could swap between the T30 and my R52 if need be.

Just got this card reader from this seller:

Supports SD/SDHC (tested), and a few other formats (untested by me).

Sits almost completely flush with the chassis (about 1.5mm protrusion). However, the SD card, when inserted protrudes by about 1cm. So I would not leave the card in there all the time, but there is no harm by leaving the reader in the slot all the time. Weighs less than 20 grams too.

Does it read at Expresscard speeds or USB speeds?
If it reads at USB speeds, not much use anyway over the internal built-in card reader on the X200.

USB can do 480Mb/s theoretical, which is 60MB/s. Let's say actual sustained speed is half of that at 30MB/s. Very few cards can max out that speed, and unfortunately I don't have any such cards.

I got this card reader, because my laptop (T60) has none. I would not consider it as an upgrade to an existing reader.

I actually did invest in two two types of expresscard and PCMCIA card adapters.

I keep an 8gb Compact Flash card in my PCMCIA slot for music; it is flush and works fine. I have the Expresscard slot empty and use a USB multicard reader for my SD/SDHCs. The other card- an Expresscard 34 SD card reader I had bought acts funky sometimes. It will suddenly stop responding and an attempt to look into the contents of a card results in a lag. Videos also stop and will resume playing a minute later.

Annoying.

The USB card reader (as inconvenient as it is) versus an expresscard card reader works fine and the transfer speeds are great.
