I'm looking to buy a new/used in great condition C2D CPU to upgrade my T60 CPU (T2400)

The T7600s command a bit of a premium because they're the fastest Merom Core 2 Duo. The T7200 or T7400 probably offer better value, but hey, maybe you got a trust fund. Good Luck in the quest.

Agreed with Fred here. In my past searches I found the T7400 to be the sweet spot in price/performance. But, if you don't mind spending a premium so that you can have the fastest available, a T7600 would be very nice.

How much are you looking to spend?

thanks guys.
There aren't many on ebay to gauge a good price for 7600 or 7400.
Logically, it does not make sense for the difference between those two in term of price/performance.

I'm looking to pay < 200. Would be good if there is any interest in my T2400 ;)

Be careful of those moded T7600/T7400/T7200 which originally came with FCBGA package but were turned into FCPGA with pins. Always check sSpec Number on intel's website before you buy.

Has anyone tried these modded CPUs to say how reliable or unreliable the mod might be?

I might be interested depending on the price of course.

The T7800 is a socket P "Merom" processor while the T7600 is socket M "Merom" which is what is compatible with the T60

Ebay got it anywhere from 30-50. Make me an offer I can't refuse and it's yours ;)

As an alternate solution, if you can sell your nicely spec'd T60 for $400 or more, then you might be able to find a T60p for the difference you're looking to spend on the upgrade. You'll also get a more powerful GPU and the option to go to a 15" FlexView LCD. Of course, it will run a little hotter and have shorter runtime, by comparison.

Just a thought.

I say buy this one and sell yours later --> http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Lenovo-Thinkpad ... 0448301516

It has great spec's (incl. the T7600 CPU) and it's still under warranty --> http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=20078JU

I guess I'd vote for the T7200. You get the increased L2 cache of the T7x00 CPUs and you can do 64 bit down the road if you choose. You can probably get one on eBay for less than $100 if you're patient.

Or this one (14" T60p w/T7600 for $600 or best offer!) --> http://cgi.ebay.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T60 ... 0474882354

(It's possible that this one is a T60 with a T60p motherboard.)
