LF: Wireless PCMCIA cards

#1 Post by tfflivemb2 » Wed Sep 30, 2009 6:59 pm

Anyone have a bunch of wireless PCMCIA cards laying around? I have several older laptops that I am putting together for a friend locally, and none of them have built in wireless, so I need to add them. I am perfectly happy if they are all "b" cards, "g" isn't necessary.

Hoping to get at least 5+ cards.

As usual, I am looking for the best deal that I can find. Watching a few auctions on eBay, but even those aren't that great...lol

I have a couple, and the install software. Let me know what they're worth to you and where they need to go (so I can get a fix on where to send 'em).

Newegg has the BELKIN ME1002-NB Wireless G Notebook Card for $10 and $2 shipping.

Not sure about you, but I consider this pretty cheap.

What computers? Can they use both 32 bit (cardbus) and 16 bit cards?

Its a mix of mostly HP/Compaq and Dell, though there is a lonely T30 (with built in wireless) in the overall group...lol

I am going to assume that most are 32bit, because I think all of them are P4 systems, with the exception of maybe one or two, that are higher end P3s...

I know you're looking for PCMCIA cards, but I have a few mini-pci wireless cards laying around. Let me know if you need 'em.

Thanks for the consideration, but since these laptops don't have built in wireless, I'd have to track down antennas and then have to physically install them, instead of just sliding in a PCMCIA card...

Not that it matters from a peformance standard (a/b/g are all slower than the 16 bit bus) but the newer 32 bit cards won't fit into an older 16 bit slot. If they are "higher end PIII" or P4, then they will be 32 bit (as it sounds like you are aware).
