#1 Post by Harryc » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:10 pm

Does anyone have the disc that came with the Lenovo USB 2.0 LightScribe Multi-burner external drive?
Thanks

Edit: The FRU number on the drive is 41N5630

if the retail part number on your drive is 41N5565 (which it should be), the software can be downloaded here:

as far as i remember, that software plus a few PDFs are all that come on the CD.

Erik, thanks for the link. When I run that package it says that "This program can only be used with recording hardware that is not attached to this computer". The FRU number on the drive is 41N5630. It looks like the Marketing part # is 41N5565, but I am not sure. It's a rebadged Apricorn.

weird... that's the correct software for your drive.

do you have an internal optical drive installed at the same time?   it's possible that the software is seeing the internal drive and ignoring USB.   in this case, remove the internal drive before running setup.

I agree it's strange. No internal drive. The external drive is hooked to an X60s. I even tried another USB port. Just for giggles I'll try this on a T500 or a T60 tomorrow without their optical drives installed.

I have used this external drive on many ThinkPads and never had to install any software on any of them. Some with and some without internal optical drives. Maybe your X's USB doesn't like the external drive or the drive has failed in some way.

Brad, I am specifically looking for the "Multimedia Center for Think Offerings with LightScribe support". Are you saying that this is automatically installed on every Thinkpad where you use this drive to install an OS? Today I can use the drive as a boot drive with no issue. It will boot and run DVD's and CD's. I want burner software, and specifically this burner software with lightscribe support mainly because Lenovo provides it for this drive, it is supported, it is supposed to work, and it is free ;) .

No I wasn't saying that. I didn't know about the Lightscribe support that you were referring to. I was only saying that the CD's and DVD's can be read and burned.

Sorry for the confusion.

which USB port on the X60s?   iirc, not all the ports on the X60 are powered.   the drive simply may not have enough power to be recognized correctly.

have you tried it with the a/c adapter?

erik, yes it was powered via an AC adapter on each attempt. I have identified the problem and it is with the Lightscribe software not recognizing this new burner. Lenovo engineering has been made aware of the issue.
