WTT: 1.2GHz X40 logic board for other X40 board, #s inside
WTT: 1.2GHz X40 logic board for other X40 board, #s inside
It's pretty much all in the title.
I've got an X40 with a 1.2Ghz Banias processor in it. I'd like to swap the logic board with a logic board containing a ULV chip.
So basically, if you're interested in upgrading the board in your X40 from a 1.0GHz or 1.1GHz CPU to a 1.2GHz CPU for just the cost of postage, let me know.
As an added perk, my logic board isn't quite stock. I recently did a complete tear-down of it, cleaned it, and stripped off the stock thermal compound in exchange for some Arctic Silver 5. This made a huge difference in running temperatures -- currently the hottest I've been able to get the CPU is 61C, and that's with 100% CPU usage for close to an hour.
EDIT: I'm looking to trade for part numbers 39T0314 (1.1GHz Dothan), 93P4229 (1.1GHz Banias), or 93P4209 (1.0GHz Banias) in order of preference. I'll also happily trade for any other ULV board that's not listed (since I hear there are some other models floating around that I didn't see listed in the HMM.)
Thanks!

Rob, the thermal paste is applied to what on the X40? I thought the CPU was soldered to the board.

The paste goes between the CPU and the fan. It is applied to the die, whether it is socketed of soldered.

Perfectly understandable. I'm much the same before my morning cup(s)...dwilsonfl wrote:I was on my first cup of coffee
As for the CPU: yes, even though the CPU is soldered to the board, the fansink assembly on the X40 can be removed. To re-apply the paste all you have to do is unscrew the four screws that hold the fansink to the board, clean off the old stuff (which, BTW, looks to be of fairly low quality), and re-apply.
