FS:T42 2378-dwu intermittent "fan error"

Hi. I'm new here, only found the forum when I replaced the hard drive in mt T42 about a month ago. Recently I get an intermittent "Fan error" message on the box and I don't want to invest anymore into it. The fan is noisy at start up but runs as far as I can tell.

Original description: P M 1.5GHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 15 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 32MB ATI Radeon 7500, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

I've added: New 250 gig WD Scorpio hard drive (a month ago), 2gb RAM, CD-DVD Multi writer. The box works great but the error scares me. It was a lot of work installing software after the hd loss and I don't want to do it again. Comes with the ac adaptor, battery only lasts about 45 minutes, just bought new system restore discs so those go with it as well. Fresh install XP, all updates.XP Office Pro. Other then the fan error
