Sierra Wireless Air Card 875 (Cardbus)
Cingular branded, carrier and voice unlocked.
capable of 7.2mb download speed (updated with Telstra firmware) $15 shipped

My X00e is Wireless Wide Area Network upgradeable -- is this Sierra Card what I need for the empty slot? And does 'unlocked' mean I could use it with AT&T or some other 3G network? If so, I'll take it :)

I think you are looking for internal Mini pci-e WWAN card. This is a cardbus (ie 32bit PC/PCMCIA Card) found on older, full size laptops, such as T61, X61. Newer laptop may have express card slot or a combo cardbus/express slot

Yes, if it is carrier/network unlocked, you can use SIM card from any wireless carrier instead being limited to one specific service provider.

However, Lenovo BOIS usually have WWAN whitelist, ie the laptop will only accept certain branded WWAN cards such as those provided by LENOVO. You may be able find a modified BIOS or other physical modification (tape over certain pins) to get around the whitelist restriction. I would advise you to search this forum for more info.

Thank you davekung for the quick reply -- I get soooooooooooooooooooooo confused by all the acronyms. So this card won't do for me --

I can install a few minor parts by following Lenovo's step-by-step directions, but no clue on making any modifications, so I will wait and purchase whatever specific card Lenovo requires -- would be so nice if I was 'geek-enabled' :P
