FS: For Parts or Repair - 380XD and A21m + lesser machines

Over time, I have acquired a pile of laptops, some were my personal machines, some were given to me with the hope of fixing them.

I recently bought a box of old laptops and came away with a fixable x20 and a fixable 390X, which have both been donated to charity (http://www.hoi.org - provides educational and medical opportunities in rural Honduras).

The other Thinkpads in the box are beyond my skillset.

The A21m wanted to work briefly, almost made it through an XP install and then got less and less responsive to the point where it just has an amber light glowing after startup.

The 380XD throws CMOS errors but will boot to a Linux CD, however, DSL doesn't have a good video driver or the screen is washed out and flakey. I have had the same weird look with DSL, but would be inclined to assume something is not right with the machine on age only.

One machine is fully functional (Gateway) (less the OS) but quite old and includes the charger (needs a new battery). Another machine will work (Viewsonic), but lacks a hard drive and the LCD inverter or backlight bulb is not working, so an image appears on the screen, but it is not really usable without an external monitor.

1. IBM Thinkpad A21M 2628-FWU, No OS or HD, PIII, LCD appears good. Ran briefly but never finished OS install. HD door included. No caddy. 15" LCD and plastics. No Charger. Excellent plastics and housing. Some battery life. $35 + shipping

2. IBM Thinkpad 380XD 2635, No OS or HD, PII, LCD appears good, light greenish image w/ Linux boot CD, CD-ROM, needs CMOS battery. OLD. LCD could be bad or could be driver issue w/ Linux. No Charger, Excellent plastics and housing, residue/scratches on lid. Has docking station. Battery does not seem to hold a charge. $25 + shipping

SOLD 3. Gateway Solo 2500, No OS (have run XP - not fun), PII - 233MHz, 4Gb HD, 224Mb RAM, DVD ROM, Needs new battery, LCD good, crack on lid at hinge, Old and slow. Can use wireless via PC Card or USB (1 USB 1.1 port). Needs CMOS battery. $55 + shipping SOLD

4. Viewsonic TPCV1250s, No OS or HD, Centrino - 1MHz, 256Mb RAM, LCD appears good, faint image, bulb or inverter bad, cracked bezel, Convertible tablet PC. No battery, stylus or hard drive caddy/cover door. Keyboard in bad shape. Loose hinge/cover. $75 + shipping

5. Toshiba Tecra M5-S5332, No OS or HD, Centrino Duo - 1.83MHz, Needs replacement battery, Good LCD, My old machine. Bad external USB HD tripped breaker or zapped motherboard. Keyboard missing. May be missing screws or internal connectors. No Charger. Fan and processor intact. $35 + shipping

6. Toshiba Tecra M3-S636, No OS or HD, Centrino - 1.73MHz?, Needs replacement battery, No LCD (Bezel included, no invertor), Another of my old machines (backup) also killed by bad external HD. 10. Sony VAIO PCG-9512, No OS or HD, No Processor, No LCD, Lid in OK condition. Mostly incomplete. No Charger. Missing internal plastics, keyboard, etc. $5 + shipping

11. Dell Latitude CPx PPX, No OS or HD, No Processor, LCD appears good. Never seen running. Keyboard bent, missing screw connection. No Charger. Excellent plastics and housing. $15 + shipping

12. Compaq Armada 4131T, No OS or HD, Processor unknown, LCD appears good. Seems to complete memory test. No other info. No Charger. Excellent plastics and housing, residue on lid. $10 + shipping

Anyone have a use for any of this pile?

I have thought about getting a new motherboard for the A21m to bring it back to life, but I really don't want to get into it.

Gateway is gone.
