The T43 takes an IDE hard drive. The largest laptop IDE hard drive is 320GB. If you put anything other than an IBM FRU drive in the T43, you will get a 2010 error on boot with a couple of exceptions (like a Fujitsu MHV2120). The largest IBM FRU drive is 100GB, and very expensive due to it's rarity. Many people run with a 2010 error drive for years with no ill effects, but it is annoying.

I believe there's a BIOS update for the T43 which cuts out the beep and continues on after a few seconds without having to hit ESC. If you're interested in not having the 2010 error, I believe biggest drive you can put in there is the 120GB Fujitsu 5400RPM. I don't have the exact model number, but I'm sure it's posted here somewhere. Perhaps you can find it via google or someone can come up with it? As Harry notes it'll probably probably be more expensive to get a Thinkpad drive, but the machine will work fine regardless.

As I stated, it's the Fujitsu MHV2120.
