Lenovo Outlet has UltraSlim adapter kit

This is the nifty multi-device adapter that can charge or power all kinds of devices while it's charging your Thinkpad. I got one last week from the outlet and it looks good as new, even though it was listed as "scratch and dent". The outlet price is $53 as compared with something like $120 list. They go fast (four sold as I was writing this post).
I checked with Bill before posting this.

Thanks for the reminder!

I'd been meaning to order that from the Outlet, just kept forgetting.

Same here! Once I know that the adapter is shipping, I'll order the 16V, iPod and Sony Ericsson W810i tips.

I ordered mine on July 9th. After weeks of "zero available", three suddenly showed up on the outlet site, and they sold immediately. There've been zero available again until today.
When I placed my order, Lenovo sent me something saying that my order should ship by July 28th, which I thought was a bit long to wait. However, it actually shipped via UPS ground on July 12th -- the Monday after I ordered on a Friday -- and it arrived on July 13th. It shipped from Greensboro, N.C., and I live in S.C., which must be why it arrived overnight.
Shipping was only $3 or so.
From Lenovo, the tips go for about $9.95 plus $4.95 shipping. You can beat that on Amazon marketplace or eBay. The adapter set came with two tips: one that works for my T61p, and one that appears to be a standard USB tip. It also has a nice carrying case. The adapter itself is much lighter and flatter than standard Thinkpad adapters. I bought it as much for the clever engineering as anything.

The ultraslim version is super nice. I love the usb tip and the dual charging dongle that it comes with.

Since the ultraslim version comes with the usb tip, you should be able to avoid buying additional tips for most portable devices. As long as your portable device has a usb charging/sync cable, you should be able to use that along with the enclosed usb tip.

The tips seem to take forever to ship, at least if you buy from Lenovo. I placed my order a week ago (July 13, 2010), and it still hasn't shipped. Yesterday the status finally changed from "Credit card information received" or something like that to "Awaiting shipment to customer". This ain't Amazon.com, folks (or
www.lenovo.com, for that matter). I should have noticed that the description for the tip I ordered (L8a, for a Blackberry Bold 9700) says it normally ships within 1-2 weeks, so I can't really say that they're not following through. I think a few of the tips ship within 24 hours, however.

I ordered one of these from the outlet six months ago scratch and dent. Mine looked new and came with everything it was supposed to in the first shipment.

Yeah, I was really pleased with the adapter set itself. It looks new and has all components that it's supposed to have. It's the extra powertip for my phone that seems to be taking forever. But if that's my biggest problem, I guess I'm doing O.K. ....

Have you tried using the usb cable from the Bold and connect to the usb tip that comes with the kit to charge the phone? I think to charge the Bold, you may have to use the low current side (the one with the blue dot) of the dual charging head.
Wait, did you order the right tip? Bold 9700 has a micro-usb charging port and L8a is a mini-usb. The part tip for micro-usb is L18.

Got the slim version for a few dollars cheaper plus it comes with 16V tip already for my older thinkpads.

No, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks. I'm a little nervous about the current, but it sounds as if you're right.

Uh-oh, I believe you're right about this. I just clicked on the tip that is for the "Bold 9000 series" without thinking that the 9700 would be different. But I do see that the L8a is mini-usb and not micro. Maybe the loooong wait is a good think, since I'll probably cancel that order. If I can't cancel, I also have a few mini-usb devices around that I could hook up.
I'm thinking of trying to run a table fan and a toaster from the adapter, too.

I hope the same happens here cause what they got ONLINE for me is stupid. How can they get it to you and very next day for me.. its delayed 15 days.
Order Date: 7/19/2010.
Expected Ship Date: 08/05/10
Can you do me a favor and check the Lenovo order email that you have.. It has a link...
https://www.directlenovo.com/orderstatu ... cfm?...etc
If you click it, it should show you some dates.. Maybe it shows your "expected ship date". Hope its the same.. so I can know the same applies to me.

I ordered on July 9 (a Friday), and Lenovo said it should ship by July 28. However, it arrived at my door on July 13, having shipped on July 12 (the Monday after I ordered on a Friday).
So they must grossly overestimate the time needed to get your order ready for shipping, maybe to avoid having impatient customers like me hassling them. Instead, they leave us pleasantly surprised.

Yes. I recognise that Lenovo Outlet tends to grossly overestimate the ship date. However, I have also experienced that my orders did not ship out until after 2 weeks. My experience goes from shipping out the next business day to over 2 weeks. Don't worry, at least they don't charge your card until the order ships.

Amazon.com and similar outfits have set the bar so high for efficiency in processing orders that I start getting peeved if something I order online doesn't ship within about 12 hours after placing the order. The reality is that, if an online vendor is dealing with a single supplier or distributor, it could well take a whole lot longer.
I should probably stop whining and just go watch one of the 300+ channels on my high-def TV or do some broadband net surfing.
What's this? The CNN webpage took 4.5 seconds to load! Why is everything against me? What did I do to deserve this?

My order was placed 7/17 (Saturday) at 2pm Pacific Time. Initially the order confirmation said it would ship in a couple of weeks. On Monday (7/19) I received an email confirming that it was shipped. Looking at the UPS tracking link that was provided, I can see that it left Greensboro, NC on the 19th, went to West Columbia, SC the next day and has arrived in Sacramento, CA early this morning. Expected delivery is tomorrow. So not too bad considering that shipping was $0 and I ordered it on a weekend.
edit: A few hours later.... Got a call from 866-777-0678 on my cell phone. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize so I let it go to voicemail. Turns out it was UPS calling to tell me that the shipment requires a signature

. Looks like I should have had it sent to work....

Just so you guys know about their service level.
I had a blown fuse in car adapter. Called support yesterday morning. Case opened, someone called me back within 30 minutes, emailed them my proof of purchase and verified. A second person called within another hour to verify the part I needed. My replacement part was sitting on my chair this morning by 9.30am. They shipped it UPS Priority Overnight. They shipped out a replacement adapter head. Then they included a prepaid UPS label for me to ship the bad one back.
Can't beat that service for a $48 item.

I know that IBM can be really good at service follow-through; I'm glad to hear good reports on Lenovo.
This is slightly off-topic, but a few years back, I was in Morocco on an extended business trip. The screen on my hard-traveled T21 started showing a strong reddish tint; it was usable, but annoying. I had a few hours free, so I dropped in on the IBM service center in Casablanca. The fellow there verified my international warranty (I was in year three of a three-year warranty) and said he'd order a new screen. It arrived the next afternoon from Paris and was installed within 30 minutes. I didn't pay a penny.
I've been loyal to IBM service ever since. I also buy the extended warranty when I order a new Thinkpad.

Nice reports
I think shipping to Oz would kill the deal.

I think it depends on the box. If you can get it into a smaller box, it's only about $15, but if its a larger box, then it's $40+. I shipped a box to NZ a few years back and it's was only like $13.
