This was one of my many project machines, but I don't have time now to tinker with it now (I've got a major car project I'm into).

I was selling it on eBay, but don't have time to deal with buyer questions. I'd rather just give it to a student that likes to tinker. I'll even pay for the UPS ground shipping. Just make sure you can really do something with it. If you have any doubts, let someone else have it.

IBM ThinkPad A31p 2653 P4-M 2.0GHZ 15" *Parts or Repair*

512MB RAM, 15" screen

probably an inverter or backlight problem

display does not light up but if you shine a bright light on it you can see the image being rendered

i hooked up an external monitor and the laptop worked flawlessly - all it needs is the screen repair, a hard drive, and a power brick (and wireless card if you're not using it as a desktop unit)

it should be a pretty straightforward repair, but i don't have time to mess with it these days

-powers up fine, stays powered up, no motherboard or processor problems

-keys are nice: no wear, no shiny spots

-no shiny palmrest area

-no cracks, no scratches, no wear or damage anywhere, nothing broken except of course for the inverter/backlight problem

-no floppy drive
-no wireless card
-no hard drive
-no power brick
-no operating system or operating system discs but has a Win XP COA sticker
-no Trackpoint rubber tip

UltraPort on top of display is missing it's little flap

modem card included
bluetooth card included
Windows XP COA sticker with valid product key is on the unit

original A31P battery included, holds about 20 minutes charge

CD-RW/DVD Combo included and works fine

speakers good
memory good
processor good
ethernet good
all ports function properly

everything works fine except the screen

basically, just fix the screen, add a hard drive and you're good

ALL THE INFO I HAVE, IS LISTED HERE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT MODEL IT IS EXCEPT FOR 2653. FEEL FREE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS BUT I PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO TELL YOU MORE THAN THIS. OF COURSE IF I GET SWAMPED WITH QUESTIONS (ON A FREE MACHINE?? I'LL JUST DELIST, THE GARAGE BECKONS...

I don't know what the demographics here are like but I would guess an older crowd (40+) like myself. If no students respond to this (anybody under 40 even know that IBM used to make PCs and laptops? LOL) then it just gets tossed into the gadgets closet to be resurrected another day when I get tired of engines and go back to electronics tinkering.

I am a student, but I'm only 17 and have no idea how I'd pay the shipping. I'm Canadian, but can provide any proof needed (student ID, report cards, etc...) Thanks in advance !

O.k. that was quick. It's gone. Apologies to the two students that posted here and didn't get a response from me, but the person that reached me first did it by PM. By the time I saw your posts it was already gone. PM is the way to go with these things. Keep checking the forum here, maybe some other "graybeards" like myself with too much stuff laying around will follow suit.Who knows? lol ! Anyway cheers and good luck in your studies.
