Any one have a MB for the T61 type 7665, or know of a good source?
Rather not get another NVIDIA GPU <G>.

Looks like T61 motherboards start on ebay for about $150 if you're inclined.

I'll look again but there were none that low when I looked.

I've got one for the 14.1" widescreen, but it has the Nvidia GPU.

You need either the full model number or the type of CPU to be sure you get the right board if you have a Penryn CPU.

Anybody know what FRU system board for the T61 type 7665-b68 WITHOUT THE NVIDIA GPU?

According to the service parts page there's two motherboards for the 14" T61 with the Intel card and firewire, which I believe a 7665 machine should have. They are 42W7866 and 41W1487, but I don't know enough to say what the difference is or whether they'll work. Perhaps someone else more learned than I can chime in here. The 866 board is available on ebay here for $169. That's all I know. Good luck.

Whats wrong with your motherboard?
I have two T61 14inch wide machines here with water damage and I could use a non water damaged motherboard. Both may machines are in warranty but not for water damage.

The question about the 2 part numbers is related to my answer above. 42W0187 is the one that does NOT work on Penryn CPU. 42W7866 works on either type

How does one discern whether a board will work with Penryn or not? 7665-B68 came with a T7100 so either board should work.

Tried EasyServ, but unless there's warranty left they're not interested in a repair, even with the Nvidia agreement to reimburse the vendors for repairing the GPU.

For T61's with 4:3 Display, I suppose they use a different mobo to those of a 14.1" WS?

Yes, mobos on T61/p differ according to the screen size and are not interchangeable.

I think you should contact Lenovo directly, and not EasyServ. I believe that only Lenovo themselves are entitled to approve of a free motherboard replacement on notebooks that are out of warranty. Call 1-800-426-7378.

The FRU for a motherboard with the Intel GMA X3100 is 41W1487. Earlier in this thread, richk said that 42W7866 will also work, and i suppose he's right. It seems you'll also need a different Thermal Device and Fan. There is a choice of two manufacturers, Toshiba FRU 42W2460 and Furukawa FRU 44C0825.

I have been getting some T61 bare bones systems recently. All that I've gotten so far are committed to others as I didn't see your post. So far, all I've been getting are 7661-BF3 models. Would that be sufficient? The FRU is the 41W1487 on one of the latest ones I've gotten. PM if interested - I'll see if my other buyer will pass on it.
