SOLD!: hi-end G41, rare bird in mint condition SOLD!

#1 Post by ajkula66 » Sat Oct 23, 2010 9:07 am

the basics:

ThinkPad G41 2881-8MU

Original description:
P4-M 548(3.33GHz)
512MB RAM
80GB 5400rpm HDD................none (cover and caddy are included)
15 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD
128MB nVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200
CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner
Modem(CDC)
1Gb Ethernet(LOM)
12 cell Li-Ion battery
WinXP Pro................COA intact

note: Although not mentioned in the above description, this machine is also factory equipped with IBM (Atheros) abg II wireless card.

An unloved ugly duckling that grew up to be a mint condition beastly workstation-class laptop...

Now seriously, folks - as Joe Walsh would have it - G41 is not one's normal "dime-a-dozen" ThinkPad like A3x, T4x/T6x or R5x...grossly misunderstood (and not really that cheap either) when new, outlandishly designed and not in the least portable, these machines were not greeted with the warmest reception, which is a sin, since they are quite capable units in their own right...

I installed Vista Business (while I'm looking for proper recovery media) on a test hard drive and got 2.4 score due to the powerful but outdated graphics card. The rest of the machine did a lot better.

This is by far the nicest G4x I've ever seen. There's really no wear on it to speak thereof. If you always (secretly) wanted one, this would be an example to keep, since they don't come much more loaded...

The only less-than-perfect aspect of this machine is the battery, and I'm going to say that there's something wrong with it, although it works and accepts charge. The Power Manager in Vista claims that the battery is not installed (?) while Linux sees it as charging but gives out all types of insane numbers. Looking into a replacement wouldn't be a bad idea if one were to keep the machine...

I'd like to get $200 + actual shipping cost for this unit, with 1GB (2x512MB) RAM and no hard drive. I might also be interested in trades, try me...

PM or email me directly to tataslonATaol.com with any questions/concerns.

OMG, I loved my G41! Definitely one of the finest desktop-replacement Thinkpads ever, and its rarity also makes it a great collector's item. I had a thread about my G41, take a look: http://67.214.227.38/~thinkpad/forum/vi ... 21&t=64360

George, if more people were familiar with the G41, this one you are selling should be gone within hours.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)

Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

I agree with Kwoon. I have always wanted one of these for my wife, because of the powerpoint presentations that she does, as well as her wedding invitation design work. It is an awesome powerhouse that is still technically portable.

One day I will get one, as I have NO G-series Thinkpads in my collection. I really wish I could afford this one, George...

Thanks Kwoon and Steve for your comments. I've almost gotten to the point of throwing an IPS SXGA+ LCD in there and keeping it, when it got sold outside of this forum...this was one outstanding machine in every respect.
