FS (Aust): ThinkPad X60s with SXGA+ FlexView
Posted: Fri Nov 05, 2010 11:46 pm
EDIT: now $900
I will be receiving a Macbook Pro at work early next week, and as such it is time for me to retire my fully specced and "SXGA+ enhanced" X60s, which (IMO) makes it one of the best ultraportables available anywhere, at any cost. I really regret listing this laptop for sale; but between a work laptop, and a desktop, T60WS and iPad at home, I no longer have a need for something like this. To leave it mothballed in a cupboard would be bordering on criminal
The 12.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050) FlexView screen retrofitted to the laptop needs no introduction; this particular panel has no dead or stuck pixels and is in perfect condition. The cable harness was hand made by Erik of forum and Lenovo Blogs fame. This cable was very expensive but of impeccable build quality, fully shielded and taped, and laid out to minimise thickness (and subsequent stresses on components inside the slim LCD lid assembly). The BIOS is from 51NB; I don't know to which Lenovo BIOS version it is modified from
There are no outward appearances of the mod being anything other than OEM; the LCD latches close securely with a light touch, the panel is well aligned within the bezel, and everything works as expected (WLAN/WWAN antennae, ThinkLight). This laptop includes internal HSDPA (3G) WWAN connectivity; the original MC8755 modem has been swapped for an MC8775 from a ThinkPad X300, which allows for higher download speeds (3.6Mbps, 7.2Mbps with an update)
The condition of this machine is excellent, as all it ended up doing was travelling between a few floors in an office building, and never as a "road warrior". The palm rest, LCD bezel, and LCD hinges were all replaced as part of the mod process, and look and feel brand new. The keyboard is in excellent condition, with keys having only a barely noticeable shine.
Detailed specs:
Intel Core Duo 1.66Ghz LV
12.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050) FlexView screen, using one of Erik's cables and 51NB BIOS
3GB RAM (the most an X60/s will recognise)
100GB 7200rpm hard disk
Fingerprint reader
Bluetooth
Intel a/b/g wireless
MC8775 WWAN module
new display hinges, front LCD bezel, and palm rest
Lenovo 8-cell battery (107 cycles, 60.60Wh capacity / 74.88Wh design capacity)
90W AC adapter
Genuine Windows XP Pro with COA
Recovery partition not intact, but will include a Lenovo WinXP [clean] installation disc.
As for accessories, I include a matching Zeroshock 'memory foam' slip case for protection in transit.
I am asking AU$900 FIRM for this laptop, plus shipping. Shipping and/or insurance will be at the buyer's preference and at cost. (I prefer Moneybookers for international sales - for Paypal, buyer pays fees.)
