A known and well-documented custom ThinkPad, best described in this thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... =T43p+qxga

Why on Earth am I selling it?

Simple enough answer: my eyesight has gotten way too bad for me to be able to enjoy this thing of beauty. Seriously.

I'm OK with pulling out my butterfly once a month and turning it on just to get the kick out of it.

I'm not OK with treating this T43p in the same manner. It's an extremely usable machine, and it should be used and appreciated.

the basics:

ThinkPad T43p 2669-Z8M

Original description: Based on 2669-CTO:
P M 780(2.26GHz)
1GB RAM
100GB 7200rpm HD
15in 1600x1200 LCD
128MB ATI FireGL V3200
CDRW/DVDRW
802.11abg wireless,
Bluetooth/Modem,
1Gb Ethernet,
UltraNav
Secure chip
Fingerprint reader
9c Li-Ion batt,
WinXP Pro

This ThinkPad is in stock condition apart from the obvious LCD upgrade, and RAM being maxed out at 2GB. The condition is stunning, likely as good as it gets for a unit of this vintage. Minimal wear on the lid, and almost no signs of use anyplace else.

The lid switch doesn't work, as described in the above linked thread. Everything else runs as it should, and then some.

Given how exceptional the ThinkPad in question is, the usual "first come first served" rule shall not apply to this sale. I reserve the right to sell it to whom I choose to under the conditions that both parties agree upon. I want this laptop to end up in the best home possible, and be treated as well as it was while owned by pianowizard and myself.

Asking $500 plus shipping at cost to most locations worldwide. No offers. No haggling.

PM or email me directly to tataslonATaol.com with any questions/concerns.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful T43p, and was one of my all-time favorite Thinkpads. I said numerous times on this forum that I planned on keeping it "until I die", but unfortunately, my eyes aren't very good (even with my glasses) and I never managed to fully adapt to this Flexview LCD's super-high pixel density. So, eventually I decided to pass it on to the biggest T43p fan on this forum, ajkula66. And now George is letting this go for the exact same reason!

Regarding the lid switch, it actually still works, but I had to remove the original lever mechanism that coupled the switch to the keyboard bezel, to make room for the LCD ribbon. I am pretty sure it is possible to fabricate a new, appropriately shaped lever to re-couple the switch to the keyboard bezel -- in fact, I think I read about people doing that on the Chinese Thinkpad forum. I just never bothered to try building such a thing, because I always want the laptop to "do nothing" when I close the lid anyway.

A few words to potential buyers: Having seen this maxed-out T43p, I can attest that George's asking price is very fair. If you are not sure whether you can handle the high pixel density, I recommend you to try to find a Sony Vaio Z Series laptop with 13" 1920x1080 resolution, because that screen has about the same pixel density as the T43p's 15" 2048x1536 screen. And of course, you could always go to Windows' "DPI setting" to make things look bigger.

Sold to a forum member who happens to be a FlexView buff and a repeat customer of mine. This machine will be in excellent hands, and good company.
