WTB: PATA 3.5 inch HDD

#1 Post by jronald » Sat Dec 11, 2010 1:58 pm

Im looking for a Desktop HDD around 40gig to replace a bad one in a Senoirs (Im calling her Senior, when Im only 10 years younger....anyway......) Looking for a pretty late model ATA-100. Not dead set on 40 gig, but I need it pretty fast to North Carolina and pretty cheap, this is a freebie repair. Anyone have this small size laying around?

Thanks
Ron

I've got a 40GB Western Digital (I think) drive in my daily use desktop right now. Working fine, and as far as I know there is nothing wrong with it, except that I need more space. I just need to clone the drive to my larger disk, and I could send it to you, if you make it worth my while to do it. Can't be worth much money though...just make me an offer and I'll decide if I want to do it.

Let me pay for shipping then.
I can use it instead of the 20 gig I was planning on a different machine that is going to a new home Christmas. (Secret Santa)

Thanks
Ron

I have actually lost track of the Laptops and Desktops I have given away.

My desktops are typically 2.0 something AMDs with 1 to 1.5 gig of memory, 40 gig HDDs, in a MATX or ATX case. I scrounge a CRT monitor, Keyboard, Mouse and speakers of some kind. Wont play most of the games out on the market.....but it will do homework up through 12th grade perfectly. I include a real copy of XP and Office 2007, as well as a free AV and a few freebie programs.

On the laptops I provide T30's, R40's and a very few X30/31's. The T30 and R40 I provide Microslouth products on. The X's Im providing to Community College students, with uBuntu on the 31 and xuBuntu on the 30. I require an email from the college students at least once a month with their success on the OS. If after 90 days they are still having issues, Ill change the OS over to XP. NO ONE has taken me up on the offer!

I have a couple of contacts in the financial needs office at the college, and the school resource people at several of the local schools. After making it very, very clear I could not help everyone, I get called 1 to several times a month. When I can help I do, when I cant I send them to the http://www.purpleelephant.org/ . PE normally can make arraignments for any type payment needed.

My family and I are far from well off, we live comfortably. 1 Son, 2 Standard Poodles and 5 too many feline fur balls. My son at 9 has already figured out that when he stops playing with last years toys, its time to donate them to someone who can use them. With this I think my wife and I have succeeded. My son doesn't understand Pay It Forward, yet, but he does understand not everyone has the opportunities that we do.

OK, Im off my soap box.

Thanks
Ron
