Looking for a hard drive

Hi guys im looking for a new hard drive that i badly need right now i have a 25 gig one my old 40 gig hard drive crashed :cry:

im looking for one around 40 gigs if possible


also im looking for a dvd/cd for a thinkpad t42

so, uhmm, please tell us what type..?
PATA or SATA..?
2.5 or 3.5 inch..?
though an accurate guess could be made its still a good idea not to interject uncertainty into an HDD request.. :)

I think sata I'm new to this stuff so i dont know much i need the hard drive for my ibm thinkpad t42 and same with the dvd/cd

Then you'll need a 2.5" PATA Drive. Maybe it's also good to mention your budget. New drives are bigger than the drive you originally had and maybe you can afford more that just 40GB

well if a 60 gig is possible then i can go with that i may even be able to purchase an 80 gig

The choices are limited for PATA drives. Here is the list of drives NewEgg has. The third one on the list is a very popular drive that most members of this forum would recommend.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E

well i thought that the t42 could only have a 80 gig max hard drive i was looking online at the lenovo website

Well no, 320GB is the current maximum. I have one in my T43p and it works very well.

Some people here have put a SATA drive using a special adapter in the ultrabay, where the optical device is. You can then jump to bigger and cheaper drives with it, though speed will not reach the SATA specs.

Alright well sounds good but i dont need that much room so im just looking for an 80 gig hard drive and a dvd/cd since the one on my laptop is broken
