8-9, $20 plus shipping.

Hey guys, looking to sell an older IBM desktop I have. I got 2 of these, so I've decided to let one go.

IBM PS/1 Expert Desktop
486SX - 25MHz
170MB HDD
8MB Ram (8 1MB simms)
3.5 1.44MB floppy drive
5.25 1.2MB floppy drive
It has a modem, but I have no clue what speed it is.

(EDIT 1/22 - I forgot that this one has the original software installation on it. So it does have Windows 3.1 as well as some IBM utilities, software and games.)

Cosmetically it is in VERY good shape for how old it is... it does have some scuffs and a few minor scratches on it, but nothing serious.

I'd like to get $125 OBO plus shipping. Feel free to make me an offer if $125 doesn't seem fair... I AM flexible. I will also trade for anything interesting like a working Laptop or color PDA/HPC.

BIG price drop! It's in my way and I want it gone to someone who wants it. I really don't want to recycle it or throw it away!

$50 plus shipping.

Is that a math coprocessor socket under the hard drive? I would have been much more interested if the 486sx wasn't soldered to the motherboard.

Yeah it is. I thought I had a coprocessor for it out of another one I had, but I guess not.

Anyone interested in this? I'd really prefer to trade it for something Apple/Mac or a 30-40GB IDE laptop hard drive if anyone has one and is looking for a old DOS/3.1 rig.

I have an old PowerMac 7200 with a 7500 motherboard in it. It has a 120MHz CPU and enough RAM chips for 1GB, but I could only get it stable with 768MB. The shipping charges just for a trade like that would be astronomical though.

Yeah, too bad you weren't closer, I'd drive to trade. I think the projected shipping cost is what's making people pass on it.

I'm interested in this but how much for shipping to Ireland?

I'm with everyone else on this one, I'd love it but shipping would be pretty expensive for something this big. Shipping a desktop sucks, even shipping a laptop is annoying.

President Obama is coming to Ireland next month, I could ask him to bring it.

It would probably be cheaper! haha! My girlfriend is going to Ireland from Wisconsin in a few hours to compete in the world championship of Irish dancing, I could ask her to make a pit stop and pick it up! haha 8)

True. I've got stuff shipped before but there's no rhyme nor reason to how much it costs. Also sometimes Customs over here stops stuff and charges a fee on top of that.

How far are you from Mr First Poster Dude?

It's about 400 miles, would definitely be cheaper to ship it here, but still too much for my minuscule-college-budget haha

It will probably be quite a bit. I tried shipping a Mac G3 tower to England before, and the cost was around $120. Needless to say the person dropped out of the deal. So yeah, I wouldn't feel comfortable shipping it outside of the US.

We could set up "we wish we could ship big items for free (more specifically this PS/1).com"

Got a three foot model of the Starship Enterprise shipped once. Can still hear the conversation: "WTF!" "A what?" "For how much!"

What I'm really looking for is a 5.25" floppy drive adaptor unit for a PS/1 TYPE 2121. The PS/1 looks a bit like the one u have and the adaptor unit clips on underneath. if u ever come across one, let me know.

Anyone interested in this at $20 plus shipping? I just powered it up today and cleaned the dust off of it.

May I suggest the large online auction site?

I was in a similar situation, albeit with a PS/2, specs as follows: "IBM PS/2 model 76, type 9576-DUA; processor 80486, base memory 12mb; mass storage 3.5" floppy & 270mb HDD. Comes with nice clicky IBM keyboard and AC power cord." Since the darn thing weighed 40 ! pounds, there was little interest on this forum, even at mere pennies on the pound. I did not want to discard a functional machine and so packed it into a sturdy used desktop shipping box that I had lying around, weighed and got the dimensions and set up the UPS ground calculator on *Bay and started the auction at some very low price. Ultimately, it sold for around $50 plus the shipping charges but that was for a PS/2 with the KB. In the absence of any interest, I'd put it up for auction and perhaps you can "recycle" the machine and be happy that you're not trashing it while sending it to someone who may have a specific need for it. BTW, do you recall what the original price was for these machines; yowser!
