T-61 and 600x for sale
Hi
My wifes T61 had a battery problem but she never knew it because she always plugged it in. When l decided to pick up anoother battery on Ebay and switched out the old one l some how caused the hard drive to die. Took it to the geek squad and they confirmed the hard drive died. Now l have to pick up a new computer. This unit has nothing to do with the recall. I also have the docking station. The charger was working but the Geek squad said it wasn't which l don't understand being that it ran this unit for a long time.
I also have the 600x with l believe 650 and it works, in fact l never had a problem with it but l just don't use it.
I am open to offers and if you have any questions or pic's let me know and l will take pic's on Monday from my office.
Thanks
Alan
PS I will be taking out the operating systems and throwing in the new battery and the old battery if so desired

If the only problem with your wife's T61 is the hard drive, you don't need a new computer, unless you just want to upgrade. You can pick up a hard drive here on the forum and have your wife's T61 up and running again. If you need recovery cd's for the T61, you can probably pick them up here on the forum also.
If you are sure you want to sell your computers, you need to post an asking price per forum rules

Hi
Your 100% correct about the price's but l don't have a clue on what to ask unless l can list a price and then best offer? What would a hard drive go for and recovery disk? And what if that's not the answer? I am not computer savey as far as fixing things.
Thanks
Alan
PS I must run over to Trader Joe's and pick up wine and things for the week will be back on later.

Someone else on the Forum will have a better idea of what your machine would sell for "as is" --
You can do a forum search for a SATA hard drive and find out what that would cost you purchased here, as well as the Recovery CD's -- It is very simple to put in a new hard drive and use lenovo recovery cd's to get up and running again --
If your machine doesn't work with the new hard drive, then you could still sell it 'as is' with better info for the purchaser -- you could also resell the hard drive and recovery cd's -
EDIT: What are the symptoms that cause you to believe the problem is a failed hard drive -- you would probably need to post those symptoms for a purchaser anyway

A decent size SATA HD (160GB) can be had for as little as $40.- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136391
Recovery discs between ~$25 - $50
And don't believe everything the Geeksquad says ... Those people want to sell stuff, not repair!

Re: T-61 and 600x for sale
By the way what exactly is a recovery disc? If my hard drive is fried then wouldn't l need to install a new operating system?RealBlackStuff wrote:A decent size SATA HD (160GB) can be had for as little as $40.- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136391

You answered your own question. That's exactly what a recovery CD set does, reinstalls the recovery partition and the OS as if it were from the factory.kingman99 wrote:... wouldn't l need to install a new operating system?

Re: T-61 and 600x for sale
Can you give us some specs or a model # on the T61? (if you still want to sell it)

Hi
It's a type 6465-cto it's the 15.6 l believe screen. My wife used it in her office so it's in minto condition with the docking station and new battery. I also have the charger. I will have to take out the O/S
Would like to figure out whats wrong with it before selling it because l'm not looking to hurt anybody. if you can tell me how to check this out l will.
Alan

Re: T-61 and 600x for sale
The only symptoms you have given are:
"l some how caused the hard drive to die. Took it to the geek squad and they confirmed the hard drive died."
If you are sure your hard drive is bad, then you need to purchase a new hard drive similar to the one listed in the post above. If restore disks came with your machine, you can install your new hard drive and use the disks to format and restore your machine to factory settings. If you don't have restore disks, you will need to purchase or borrow disks to do the restore.
If you can describe what symptoms of hard drive/machine failure you observed, then someone with experience/knowledge here on the Forum would be able to give you a better estimate of what your machine might sell for in it's current state.

Re: T-61 and 600x for sale
Geek Squad is clueless and downright dangerous as well as counterproductive in 99% of the cases when it comes to ThinkPads. Period.
I've gone inside a ThinkPad after them in many cases and was absolutely stunned at atrocities that I had a chance to observe.
Having seen and worked on thousands of ThinkPads I have yet to see one where a battery killed a hard drive. There's something very wrong with that picture.
I'd strongly suggest bringing/shipping that machine to a more knowledgeable forum member than yourself, and having them diagnose it. At least you'll know where you stand.
Good luck.
