LF: TP X-301 with SSD. Comments about pricing pls

#1 Post by alexander_s » Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:28 pm

I am looking for a TP x-301 with 64G or 128G SSD; preferably with 6+ months of remaining Lenovo warranty. The OS & RAM are meh but I do want a decent battery and the 7.5mm optical drive. Prices seem to be all over the place. Does anyone here have one that they are thinking of selling -and- what is a decent price for the same? It's more of a want than a need, if you know what I mean.

I was looking on eBay for the X301 for quite awhile. The lowest I saw was around $700-750 if I recall right. I recently got one in the recycle systems I get, but that is very rare. If I get another one, I'll post it here on the forum as I'm keeping that one for myself. They are nice systems - and I love it with the SSD.
Good luck - and you'll be getting a good system.
Sincerely -- Bob

I know what you mean. I bought; actually more traded my X41 and T43p combo, since I sold both for a combined total that paid the $650 or so for my X300 about 8 months ago. It was a definite "want" thing more than a need, since my other machines were more than adequate. Good luck with your search, since the prices on the X300 were "all over the place" when I bought mine as well.

I will say though that it was more than worth the hassle: the X30x machines are "special".
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Soooo, I've looked at the specs for the x300 vs x301; faster ULV and speedier RAM. There seem to be a plethora of x300's around $600-ish but the x301's seem to be sparser and several hundred dollars more. Is the 301 that much more of a speed demon than the 300 to justify the premium?
I mean, realistically, I should be looking at a t410s if I was concerned about processor speed, yada yada.

I haven't compared the two side-by-side, so don't really know. All I know is I REALLY like the X301 that I have. Not sure whether it's the SSD drive or what that gives it the snappiness. Hopefully, someone else here on the forum can give a better answer.

No. I mean... it is faster, but not by that much. Also, IIRC, the battery life is slightly worse due to the chipset.

I've got an X300, and it's a stellar machine -- one of the best ThinkPads that I've ever used.

Of course if you wanted to make an offer... ;)
