FS: Beautiful ThinkPad T43p with SATA compatibility
FS: Beautiful ThinkPad T43p with SATA compatibility
I hate to do this but there's a lovely T60p I'd like to buy and as a poor high school student who starts college next year I don't have much spending money.
Up for sale is my precious baby T43p. The condition is great, with only minimal "corner wear" you'd expect from any thinkpad that's been outside of its box for more than a millisecond.
The main feature that sets this one apart from the rest is that it has been modified to accept standard 2.5" SATA hard drives, whether they be regular drives or Solid-State disks. The BIOS has been modified so there is no 2010 error, and performance is far better than the original IDE configuration it had before.
Here is the specification list:
Type: 2668
14.1" 1440x1050 LCD in mint shape
1.86GHz Dothan Pentium M w/ 2MB L2 cache
2 x 1GB DDR2 RAM
New clearplate just installed
320GB 7200RPM Western Digital SATA hard drive (WD3200BEKT) [Swap to a 64GB Crucial M225 drive for an additional $80]
Battery in "eh" condition at 60%, spare battery at 50% included as well, both non-extended standard size
OEM IBM Charger
Intel Wi-Fi a/b/g
ATI FireGL V3200 graphics with 128MB VRAM
Absolutely no signs of faulty southbridge or GPU
Trackpoint cap was replaced a few days ago and works great. Trackpad is non-oily and buttons are as clicky and responsive as they should be.
Keyboard was installed from new old stock (NOS) about 2 weeks ago.
Matshita UJDA765 DVD drive, with blue eject button, reads and burns fine
I will be formatting the drive and installing some flavor of Linux (probably ubuntu or fedora) before shipping it out as the windows license currently installed belongs to me. If you do want to reinstall windows, I will burn you a CD containing all the drivers and software packages you'd need for no extra charge.
And now for the glamour shots!

And a shot of the new HDD connection:

Special thanks to the model featured in the photos.
This is the same thinkpad featured in my signature where I outlined my SATA modification, at http://mikejmoffitt.com/sata .
I am asking for $300 for this + $10 shipping within the US. I'd much rather not ship overseas if possible. While $300 may seem high for a thinkpad do consider the future-proofing achieved by using a modern disk drive with a previously compatibility-touchy laptop. The laptop is in great shape too and I'm sad to see it go.
If you have any questions or counteroffers feel free to send me a PM or email me; contact info is available at http://mikejmoffitt.com

The COA has been ripped off by the previous owner. The license is a retail copy that I have.BeeJayEmm wrote: Does this unit have a COA? For what OS and version, please?
