I know this is a ThinkPad forum but I find that people here are very nice and probably will not tar and feather me for heresy if I mention a mac product 8)

Right??? :P

I am the recipient of an older iBook G3. It is a 12" model with:

800mhz PPC/128mb RAM/30gb HDD/CD

This model is from 2002 hence the low specs. It did come with an AC adapter so I was able to boot it into OSX. It runs pretty slow. I definitely know it needs RAM and a battery (it'll reset time for every boot).

If anyone has:

Code: Select all

512mb 144pin Low Density PC 133 or PC100 stick of RAM
EDIT: Got a Battery :)

Just name your price :D

Thanks!

The G3 iBooks only have 1 RAM slot. 128MB is soldered to the board. You should be able to put a 512MB stick in it and max it out to 640mb. Make absolute sure that the memory you get for it is Mac compatible, otherwise you will be fighting kernel panics.

@sarbin- thanks for the offer but as demanding as an OS is today I'd like to max out the single available slot of RAM with a 512 stick. Thanks for the offer :)

@BGoins12- it's a nice little machine and the screen is not bad for an older panel from 2002 :) Yes I did some research and the RAM is somewhat special. Low density and restricted to 1.25" in height? or 1.50"? I'm a little too busy to check ATM. The battery would be nice also so I could take it to class sometimes and get used to the ancient Microsoft Word 2004 on it lol
