【FS】HP8540w Dream Color2 Panel Sealed in Box

#1 Post by misq » Fri May 06, 2011 2:13 pm

Hi, I just bought another Dream Color 2 Panel from HP through a rep I know. I sold my 8540w last week (with original DC2), and I meant to buy another non-HP, such as IBM to furnish this new panel, but experts told me that it is virtually impossible.

I became interested in HP about 3 months ago and got my first 8540w, and sold last week. But the panel is so good that I decided to use my network to get one.

Now it is not possible to use on IBM so I need to let go of this or return (took me quite a while to get this panel).

If anyone knows how to furnish this panel on a thinkpad W510/520; T510/520. I can keep the panel and pay you some fees to handle the installation :)

Ask for $650 OBO with my Fedex Shipping w/insurance and tracking.

Please direct your email to expert.mit@gmail.com if you are interested. The panel has an assembly for 8540w for free. But I think it can be used on 8560 as well. The panel is sealed, brand new, I have not opened the static-free seal yet.

If you're looking to have someone install this panel for you, I'd be glad to help out. Feel free to contact me via PM if you're interested.

I don't think there is any way this panel would successfully work on any Lenovo. For one, the display gets driven by the 30 bit output in the 8540w, and all other laptops would have 24 bit output. Also, you need HP's special software to select and tune color spaces. Without this software, you would probably have an extremely oversaturated display at all times.

having seen photos of the panel, i beg to differ.   there's an intermediate controller card that drives the additional color space for the display and it's the part calibrated from the factory.   software should be a non-issue.

if this can work, i'm sure someone here will figure it out. ;)

It would be interesting to see if you're right, and it's possible to create a Frankenpad W510 or W520 with the dreamcolor 2 screen and full color space control.

What are the part and model numbers of that panel?
^nobody online seems to have the important numbers.
