LF: Fans for T61p, T60p, and T60
I'm looking for one T61p fan, one T60p fan, and 6-10 T60 fans (ATI GPU, not integrated). I'd like to get these all from the same seller and hopefully get a nice deal on a bulk purchase.
If anybody can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

James:
You might want to review the thread Fan for T60 2007-CTO. Notice the difference between the 41V9932 and the 41W6407.
If you're looking for the 41W6407 you'll e.g. find these at a resonably cheap cost.. Original IBM ( must be original Lenovo, I guess?!), with 90-day warranty. The same seller also has many other T6x/p fans, so maby he/she is ready for a quick, "bulk" deal?

I've actually been talking to that same seller, but he/she isn't able to give me the price I'm looking for. I'm hoping to get 10 good fans for $13 or so. I'm considering just getting replacement fans only (without the heatsink), like the ones in this listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-IBM-Lenovo ... 27b95b2981 - Then I could simply refurbish the original heatsinks with new fans.Johan wrote:James:

It seems like installing a new fan and replacing the foil tape would do the trick. And I use Arctic Silver 5 instead of the original thermal compound anyway, so it's not important to me if the heatsinks already have this,

Although I'm certainly not at all in any position to give a long-time, world-wide, top-notch internationally famous ThinkPad expert, such as you James, and advices, I'd "purely hypotetically" say, that you're right on track with this suggested approach; simply swap out the fans only, and reuse the heat-pipe/heatsink assembly. With reference to this issue, you may want to see thread T42 Fan replacement and especially this post based on which it seems possible, cheap (although it require a bit of labor) to simply replace the fan only (I recall somewhere having seen that good ol' HarryC is doing the same, sometime? However, I couldn't find any thread implicitly mentioning this). Anyway, RBS is suggesting the same eBay'er as you are linking to, so that's a very good recommendation! Your suggested approach is exactly as good as any e.g. eBay-"refurbished" fan, and moreover you've got the added confidence that you've did it yourself, hence superb quality, as always!jamiphar wrote:I've actually been talking to that same seller, but he/she isn't able to give me the price I'm looking for. ... the only slightly "spooky" issue in relation to replacing the fan only is what is discussed in the thread FAN ERROR on startup... with a twist
By the way, did you check the thread T60 T61 fan lubrication - illustrated guide by msb0b inside... it might be possibly to entirely avoid having to buy any new parts?! Muchos cheapos!

Not intending to turn this Marketplace add into a technical thread I'm just puzzled about what you mean by "replacing the foil tape"?? Are you referring to the rubber-like thermal pad, connecting the GPU to the heatsink assy?? If not, what exactly do you mean by "foil tape"??
No need for any further comments from me, but thanks for sharing your view of a low-cost T60 fan-replacement approach; I'm sure that many forum-members will benefit from reading this.
