The Lenovo Outlet has many items on sale.

For instance, for $450 each, these are nice machines that should come as new and include 1 year warranties - 18 in stock (at least), the only shortcoming is the 4 cell battery, but you can often find similar models with 6 cell batteries. With the integrated webcam and Skype, you'll hardly miss your kids...

ThinkPad Edge 14

Keyboard/Pointing Device UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad)
Total Memory 4GB (2 X 2GB) PC3-8500 DDR3 1067MHz SDRAM SODIMM Memory
Hard Drive 320GB, 5400RPM Serial ATA 2.5" Hard Drive
Display 14.0” WXGA HD (1366 X 768) LED, W/ Camera
Graphics Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD
Optical Device DVD Recordable 8x Max Dual Layer
Battery 4 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (Up to 2.5 Hours Run Time)

Mobile Broadband No WWAN Supported
Bluetooth No
Integrated Camera Yes

If $450 each is above your budget, then anything in the T60 to T400 line would probably work well - maybe $200 to $400 for complete, very good to excellent machines.

I'm not familiar with this ThinkPad, but the specs look good for a school computer -- the price is only good for two more hours -- it's a Deal Blast / Deal of the Day on eBay --

Equally important is, what size and weight? If the OP's daughters are going to carry the laptops often, I think 15.6" would be too big and heavy.

I've got (2) 14" T60's for sale. Exact specs are at home, but one has a T7200 CPU chip in it and the other has a T5600 CPU chip, both with XGA screens that are in really nice shape, one with the Intel GPU and the other with a ATI GPU, and both are really clean machines.

Let me know if you are interested and I can get you more information on these.

ThinkPad Edge 14
I bought a similarly equipped Edge 14 for my daughter. It's a very nice machine for a teen getting started. Highly recommended.

I'm selling a 14" T60p (SXGA+ screen is fantastic) with Core2Duo, 3GB RAM, 802.11N, and a hard drive that still has 1.5years of warranty left on it. Very clean/nice machine, and is fast enough to be future-proof for the next few years, and is only a bit over 5lbs.
Let me know if you're interested; I'll have a FS thread up momentarily.

Do you still have this for sale?

You can ask your girls which notebooks they prefer.

Girls usually like Sony or Apple notebooks which look nice.
