WTB: T42p Systemboard (IBM 27K9909 or 27K9912 or 27K9987)

#1 Post by ethink » Tue Jun 07, 2011 12:38 pm

My T42p was recently damaged in a lightning storm http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=96911

The machine is operational (I am composing this posting on it) but I do not have 100MB wired Ethernet and the Dock II will not work reliably.

I am currently using an IBM 10/100 EtherJet PCCard and external USB 2.0 Hub as a work around.

Although this is 6+ year old machine, almost all of the common HW failure points have been replaced over the past three years including HD, Keyboard, Fan and LCD Screen. This ThinkPad is too nice to scrap or part-out!

I am looking for a new or refurbished IBM 27K9909 or 27K9912 Systemboard to repair my T42p.

Please contact me by PM or email gorenbergh at mags.net if you can help.

Thanks!

If you can live without the FPR, you'd have quite a few more options!
See http://theboardroom.info/ibm_list.htm and look for ATI M10 GL-128
The Board Room has a suitable T4xp mobo w/o FPR, but unfortunately your own mobo is not a candidate for exchange.
OTOH, ever heard of baksheesh? Try me.

FPR means fingerprint reader, which was a rare find on T42/p generation.

I actually have a t42p motherboard that supports FPR, I was thinking about replacing with a faster t43 motherboard in my r50p clone. The FRU 27K9983.

Our 93P3313 is the same as yours, except no FPR.
I repeat the baksheesh offer, but hurry, there are others lurking...

how much are you looking to spend? I have a base unit for a T43 for sale. Basically it's the bottom 1/2 of the machine, including the CPU chip and fan, and even some RAM if memory serves me. Does not have any of the following: HDD, HDD Caddy, HDD door, CDRW, battery, ac adapter, keyboard, palmrest, KB bezel. All of which you could move over from your old machine.... I believe it's a Type 2668-xxx, but I can get exact system model-type tonight. The only downside I can think of is if you were running WinXP on your T42p, that may not boot up initially on a T43 however and you may have to do a repair install.
T42 (type 2373)
T43 (type 2668) x2

Thank you for the reply to my posting.

I do not want to go with a T43 or T43p; to many HD problems. I want to keep my T42p as a T42p.
