Now that my SATA-modded T43p project is fully completed (courtesy of RealBlackStuff...
The unit in question was my wife's desktop replacement for quite some time now, and was modded to accommodate her request for a machine powerful enough, but quiet and cool-running. I'd say that given the limitations of the ATi-based T43 platform the task has been accomplished.
While generally a pretty nice example of this classic ThinkPad range, it's not perfect. Here's what I have to report:
a) A small piece of plastic chipped off the upper left corner frame, no damage to the chassis, not bad but it's there.
b) A couple of extremely light gray specs in the upper RH corner of an otherwise very pretty FlexView panel, visible on extremely light/bright backgrounds only if you look for them, and one whitish mark that appears to be a scratch on the inside of the screen (between the LCD layers) - none of these imperfections are distracting and they will not come out in the pictures.
c) Normal wear/tear/shine for a ThinkPad of this era.
Wanna trade? If you have something that I need I'm all for it - let's save a few bucks in this lou$y economy...
