Antique ThinkPad 701C collection

#1 Post by BillMorrow » Thu Jul 14, 2011 3:28 am

i was sorting through my thinkpad collection and found 8 701C's and 1 701Cs ranging from very very very good to parts only..
i am open to offers and this would include everything 701 including at least 10 NOS keyboards, about 4 NOS 8mg system boards and a fully tricked out system board with 133mhz AMD cpu and a 64meg memory card for a total of 72meg..
also included about 10 NOS batteries.. all probably dead but they should be rebuildable.. and MAYBE one or two could be recovered.. without looking i would say these are all NiCad.. and each comes in a thinkpad branded soft case..
AND, whatever else is hanging around like a bunch of the little docking bars, printer cables, floppy drives and anything else 701 related..

also found an excellent 770Z..

offers accepted..

I'd be interested (esp. the motherboard upgrade) if still available. Thx.

every time i start more bits and pieces surface..

additionally, my assistant has been ill for months holding it all up..

so, no, the 133mhz system board is going with the rest if that buyer is still wanting it all..

Do these use a desktop type socketed 486 cpu? If so, then I might have an amd 133 chip that will run on one of these. I've used them in other laptops and they work great, the only issue is keeping them cool. Sometimes you need to design a heatsink yourself if there isn't room to install one.

Let me know if the offer falls through, as I'm somewhat interested. Also, what IS the current offer?

No, they use a surface mount chip. I could solder one in myself, I have AMD 5x86-133s in the correct form factor, but I don't know what sort of voltage or multiplier modifications would be required to make it work off the top of my head. Would be easier if I could see one which has already been modified, then it would be simple to reproduce.

I was just wondering if you still have a good & working 701c? I don't really mind getting the most standard/basic one.

hello..

i still have about 6 working thinkpad 701C machines..

they are not the best cosmetically but they all work well.. for a thinkpad designed for windows 3.1 and OS/2 warp 3..

none of this group have all the doors but most have most of the doors.. the PCMCIA door is missing on all of this group..

i recently found about 5 of the docking bars what provide a serial and parallel port and more..

PM me please with an offer on the 133 mhz unit. I recognize the value of it.

Recently I found an old 701 that apparently has a boot problem. Outer casing is rather scratched but I'm thinking of fixing / upgrading it.
Does anyone have perhaps the floppy drive left, or even one of those 133 mhz motherboards?
Who knows, with a pcmcia card it might even read usb sticks. Not that I have any practical use for it, it's mostly "because I can".
