Just FYI: I'm pretty sure the screen is SXGA+ (1400x1050), not SXGA. AFAIK, the only models to ever ship with an SXGA screen were the 770X and 770Z.

(Unless it's been retro-fitted with an SXGA display, that is...)

Hi. Rob, I sold one of these exact same models (R60 9457-Y1R) on the Forum about a month ago. That one had an SXGA+ (1400x1050) resolution, as you point out. That is also what the Lenovo website shows for these models. This particular one shows SXGA (1280x1024) as you can see in one of the pictures I uploaded above: http://www.tigershop.biz/uploads/DSC03365.jpg So that' why I have listed it as such.

I have downloaded the latest video driver from the Lenovo website and fiddled with the display settings. My only guess is that someone may have had a new LCD panel put in a little while back. This was previously used in a corporate environment. The screen is as bright as can be and absolutely spotless. It looks brand new, so I think someone simply fitted a new SXGA panel onto it. I will keep checking video drivers and settings but the display looks great so we'll just call it an SXGA.

Thanks again,
Daniel.

Well I may well be wrong. I just know that the R60s didn't ship with SXGA panels from Lenovo, so it must be an aftermarket screen.

Thanks for clarifying though!

Yeah, evidently someone had put in a new LCD panel.

But 1280×1024 is 5:4 ratio, and the other screens are 4:3. That would need a custom chassis! Will you take a ruler and measure the real width and height of the screen?

Thanks automobus, and thanks ThinkRob. It is a 14.1" 4:3 standard ratio screen. And it turns out it is indeed 1400x1050 SXGA+ original Lenovo LCD factory parts all the way. Thanks to your questions I retraced my steps and just had to update a driver. Silly me :)

This may help someone else who may not be getting the full resolution out of their LCD.
These steps are specific to the Thinkpad R60 9457-Y1R but just go to the Lenovo website, use "Quick Path" and follow a similar procedure for your particular model:

(1) Make sure you have the latest BIOS version from the Lenovo website here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_SE/researc ... MIGR-64283

(2) Download and install the ATI display driver from the Lenovo website

* (3) Do the latest Windows updates and choose to install optional hardware updates including, in this case, the Intel 950 Express Chipset driver. (This is where I was missing it).

I updated my listing above with the correct information and took a new picture of my display properties: http://tigershop.webstarts.com/uploads/DSC03405.jpg

P.S. It seems that the LCD was already using SXGA+ resolution once I got down to step 2 (installed the ATI display driver), and set Resolution to the highest (right-click when in main desktop window, choose "Properties", then "Settings"). So I was already using SXGA+ resolution since I know what that looks like , but the numbers in my "Display Properties" kept showing SXGA (1280x1024), which I suppose, as automobus rightly points out, wouldn't make sense for a 14.1" 4:3 standard size display. In any case, you wanna make sure you have all your display drivers properly recognized and configured so Windows can utilize all video features of a high resolution SXGA+ display when playing a video, game,or any other graphics intensive application.

Have a great night,
Daniel:)

Huh...not quite...

9457-Y1R would need an Intel graphics driver, and *not* an ATi one...so step 2 wouldn't actually accomplish anything...

ThinkPad R60 (9457-Y1R)
Based on 9457-CTO: T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Thanks George, that makes sense. I'm still learning :)

So why does Lenovo have the ATI driver under "Video" when I use Quick Path and put in "9457-Y1R" on their website. Why don't they have the Intel graphics driver? (Which I had to get from Microsoft update). As you point out, the specs of the R60 9457-Y1R shows "Intel 950". I guess they just enjoy confusing people.

Daniel.

They ruined a good thing with the support site makover. Example: Quick Path is not quick; driver lists are missing drivers.
Why? I dunno, I am asking the same question.
But at least we can use Driver Matrix, and it does have the Intel graphics driver.

Too bad it is not SXGA: that would be incredible, rare, one-of-a-kind configuration, truly irreplaceable laptop.
Anyway, I hope your sale goes well.

Thanks for the link, automobus. And let's hope Lenovo fine tunes its new website to make it a little more user-friendly and accurate :)
