Called IBM Support to Extend Warranty - Home or Business?

#1 Post by simms » Mon Jan 23, 2006 4:31 pm

I called the IBM support number and told them I wanted to know about prices to extend my warranty for 1-2 years. They gave me another number, which I called.

The lady who answered asked me if it was for business or home use. I said home use, and the lady gave me the general number to call and find out warranty information.

While I did not buy this computer direct from IBM, it has a part number 2374-PU2 that I believe is under educational purchases.

Should I just say it is for business use? What are the technicalities if I say business?

I have a business (had is more like it), but the name is still registered to me! So anything I do with IBM/Lenovo gets placed under that name.

IBM (past tense) NEVER did ANYTHING for the end-user if it was for "home" use. You could not get extended warranties, NOT even the accidental protection! Since they were ALWAYS business oriented, I do not find it irrational for them to take the same approach on warranty/damage protection issues.

As for the "lie" part, I would not; but it is up to you! If they ask you for the business name, what are you going to tell them?
