Yeah, the blue enter is on every Thinkpad since the x30 and lost on the xx30. Where did it come from and where did it go?
Just collecting vintage machines....Thinkpads included.
Have: IBM PC 5150, Tandy 1400LT, Macintosh Portable, Metalis 286(dead), Satellite 200CDS, TP 755C&CDV , 701C, Slimsport 286(deadish/zombie).
New: TI Travelmate 4000E 4/25, AMREL SLT486 (4DX2/66)

I think it was a design element introduced as a nod to IBMs company color blue. After all, IBM is "Big Blue".
Lenovo isn´t "Big Blue" and my guess is that they wanted to make the design look more modern. So they changed it back to black with the Tx30 models.

Lenovo are determined to make Thinkpads look more bland in my eyes. YMMV
They can also save maybe some cents per keyboard doing this.
