I've been looking forward to seeing a Thinkpad with a Snapdragon CPU.. i don't use very much processing power these days especially on the road and can probably get away using my phone but would like to know your thoughts on the Thinkpad X13s... I'm looking for an upgrade to my travel x260 machine I've had for years..

It depends on what emulation capabilities Windows on Arm has. Can it run x86 software?
Because, if you're limited to Arm programs, then it may not be that great idea. Unless you're certain that you'll be fine with the software available right now (which is probably not a lot).
That's a big issue with Linux for me. The system itself works, but there aren't that many good applications for it. The usuals yes (Firefox, GIMP, Libre Office and the like) but there aren't many equivalents to good, professional quality Windows programs (just a constellation of half finished, perpetual beta releases of minor applications). That's mostly because Linux is a plain mess and there is really not a standard UI to develop for...
You can always try and tell us how it goes. Should last longer on battery than a regular laptop, that's for sure. But I don't think the difference will be that great. In the end, the biggest power consumption comes with the screen and there is nothing the Arm architecture can do about that. A modern x86 machine can idle for about 2.4w with the CPU package at about 0.4w. Assuming Arm is capable of going to near zero consumption on idle, you'll still be using like 2W for everything else. Unless they are using an OLED display in dark mode, or something.
I'm waiting for RISC-V machines myself.

Re: Thinkpad X13s.. thoughts?
Windows can emulate x86 programs since Windows 10. The issue was that x64 programs didn't work, but this was solved with Windows 11.
Many programs will run through emulation, but there are certainly some that still won't run. When I tried Windows on ARM, things that would not run were GPU benchmarks and games.
The issue with x86 CPUs is not complete idle, but moderate load. Lightweight work is where x86 will consume far more than the ARM chip. Especially the new Intel Alder-Lake CPUs, which are very inefficient in these scenarios.

If they go with newer CPUs like this Snapdragon, why is Lenono still so hard-headed in its choice of X13s LCD?
Only 1920x1200 and 300 nits...
Admitted, 16:10 is better than that crap 16:9, but they are still sh!t screens, compared to what e.g. the Fruit puts in its similar-sized Macbook Air M1.
FYI: my daughter got a 14" 2021 Macbook Pro from work, decent scissor keys, a beautiful LCD, FAST!
I don't particularly like its silver chassis, but other than that, great looker with apparently HUGE battery life.
The Fruit must be the best by far, for its choice of screens.
Lenono and others keep imitating them, so why not do it properly?
