Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0: does it have eSATA?

#1 Post by ansible212 » Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:35 am

This may be a stupid question in which case forgive me.

My X220 has recently arrived (that's another story, but essentially it was to avoid the new keyboard), and am now considering getting a Mini Dock Plus Series 3 to accompany it.

The main reason for getting the Mini Dock Plus Series 3 is to add eSATA to it (yes, I know I can do it via ExpressCard), although the option to run multiple monitors and the abundance of USB ports is a bonus, as is the fact it ships with a 90W power adapter.

So to get to my question: I can't find any reference on Lenovo's website to eSATA on the latest version of the dock (i.e. the one with USB 3.0).

Can anyone confirm whether or not this latest version has eSATA?

Thx in advance, and again apologies if this is a dumb question. ;)

Indeed, although it looks like the USB 3.0 one doesn't: was just about to edit my post as having worked out the right Google search came across this thread on here:

Given that in at least one review the eSATA drive (WD My Book Studio II) I have to hand benchmarks below a USB 3.0 drive (WD My Book Essential... although in another the USB 3.0 is faster on reads but not on writes), then it makes me wonder if I might be better going for the USB 3.0 version or sticking with an Ultrabase (for DisplayPort).
