Does anyone know if there is a voltage selector in the 2.5" to 1.8" SATA drive adapter, Lenovo P/N or FRU 42W7888?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271032801819
Or does it feed from the +5V and has both +5V and +3.3V ON all the time?
I am assuming that a 3.3V drive does not connect to the +5V pins.
Someone was asked me if this could work in a SATA-modded T43/R52, which supplies only +5V, and where the +3.3V pins are not 'connected'.
PS: I have also seen this 'knock-off' on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/280831846415
Anyone use this, or the other one above?

There are no electronics on the storage adapter. Both the 5V and 3.3V are included in the SATA source.

I don't know if Brad has answered what you need to know, but in any case, just for your information, I have been/am using a couple of 42W7888's in both a couple of T60's and in a couple of T42/p's (see e.g. this post), and in all cases with 1.8" SATA SSD's designed for 3.3 V. Everything has always worked fine, without the need to set anyting (which you by the way can't, there's absolutely nothing to play with in the 42W7888).
There are various incorrect information on the 'net about these converters... as evidence in e.g. FS: Intel X18-M G2 160gb SSD (2.5 inch adapter available).
Bottom line: You can get the 42W7888 and use it with a 3.3 V drive without issues.

42W7888 is simply passive
As Brad said, there is no voltage regulator in 42W7888. The pins which carry 5 and 3.3 volts are passed through.
addition 2014-03: for those seeking a No-BS straight-through mSATA to 2.5-inch adapter, I recommend Dell part 86MKK. It does not have a questionable onboard 5 to 3.3 volt regulator. It holds JEDEC MO-300A mini-SATA 50mm module, it is 7mm tall, it seems to be made of that lightweight magnesium alloy found in ThinkPads and other laptops, and it has standard M3 mounting holes (eight total, four in sides and four in bottom).
addition 2014-09: for those seeking mSATA to 2.5-inch adapter with 5 volt to 3.3 volt conversion/regulation, I think I found Dell part 7NFCY. FCN4M is chassis / frame with protruding mounting tabs, which holds board 7NFCY. Based on pictures, 7NFCY looks like it has a onboard 5 to 3.3 volt regulator. It holds JEDEC MO-300A mini-SATA 50mm module. I think it might be 5mm tall, based on text name, but it looks like 7mm in eBay sellers' photos. I do not know what material is frame FCN4M, it might be possible to cut-off its tabs on order to fit in ordinary 2.5-formfactor spaces. Or board 7NFCY might fit into frame from 86MKK.
