Anybody have experience with BIOS modding on thinkpads?

#1 Post by thinkpadinside » Sat Nov 17, 2012 1:37 am

Does anybody have bios modding experience on thinkpads? I am trying to modify something very specific on my X220 tablet, but I have no idea how to recompile the bios, meaning get it into a flashable file. I have edited what I needed, but I don't know how to recompile properly. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Its a simple, little hack. Also, advice on whitelist removal would be great!

Zender (of BIOS-mod fame) describes here how to do this: http://www.endeer.cz/bios.tools/thinkpad-biosmod.html

well that tutorial works on T40 series, which is ancient :P

the bios structure has vastly changed from then to now. X220 has uefi/bios hybrid system. When I decompose the bios executable, I get 3 main files, one ending in FL1, the others ending in FL2 and HSH. Which is the main bios file to be flashed/modified?

EDIT
I see on that site, he does address new structure of the new BIOS types, this is awesome! Thanks!
