Nah, my travel TP always is my trusty X60s X601s with a 32GB SSD with W7, Firefox, Thunderbird and nothing else.
Wifi via Intel 6200N.

I recently put an X61s mobo in my trusty X60s, so it's now a FrankenPad X601s

I'm not an addict at all. I used to have two ThinkPads, an R40 and an A31. The R40 died about 3 years ago now, and the A31 died in March 2010 (so about 2 years 9 months ago). When I had my ThinkPads, I was interested in them, but since they died, I'm not all that interested anymore. I still like them and I'd still definitely consider Lenovo if I were buying a new laptop, but since then my interests in IT has moved on specifically to desktops and the hardware available for them.

Hi,

New user and Thinkpad addict here.

I've been using Thinkpads in a work related capacity for almost 20 years. Starting with the 770, T40, T60 and now with a T420.

Because of the great experience I've had with them at work, I bought myself a 701C followed by an X61 (yes, a huge leap), X200 and an Edge. (All purchased new!)

Looking forward to what's in store for the X240 since I'll be replacing my X200 and Edge soon.

2011: x61t (wanted a higher res, sxga+ baby!)
2012: x201 i5-560m modded w/ wxga+ screen. (was about to get a x1 carbon but.. I prefer the x2xx form factor :D )
2012: x200s w/ the x201's wxga screen (trying to sell this now, no need now that I completed the screen swap above lol).

I would not consider myself an addict, nor being very passionate about them. But since 1999, I have not owned/used any other brand/type of computer.

Since October 1999 (in acquisition/usage order - "owned" liberally interpreted as either extensively used myself or bought/set up/supported for family):
i Series 1412 (12.1") 2x
i Series 1460 (14.1") - self
770X (14.1") - work
T20 (14.1") - work
T22 (14.1")
A31 (14.1")
A31p (15.0") - self
R40 (14.1")
T40 (14.1") - work
R52 (15.0")
T60p (14.1") - work
T61p (15.4" WS)
T61p (15.4" WS) - self
X130e (11")
W520 (15" WS) - work
W520 (15" WS) - currently on the way to me (sadly, but not unexpectedly my T61p died)

As a gamer I was accostomed to spending about most of day off of work playing videogames.
Because of a certain website I've been seeing alot of thinkpads being posted and well I had to see what these things were good for.
Now I never had the use of a laptop, my sister had one but I thought they were clunky and stupid unless it was a macbook. Heh, but I wouldn't waste any money on that kind of laptop or any other.

It was only after I did my first PC build that I wanted to check out what this thinkpad hype was all about. I found an x61t with broken hinge on ebay, so I bought that, the hinge, new latch, and eventually a digitizer (one it came with was small like one from a Palm). I also got an SSD for the first time because I didn't want it to suffer the same fate as my sis' laptop. Good thing it was just the HDD and im glad I did buy it before the Tsunami of 2011 ruined HDD prices.

I had a great time removing the bezel for the screen, I wasn't scared to get my hands dirty. The smell of the metal and plastic of PC hardware smelt better then sitting in a new car. Downloading the drivers, I specially love the Power Manager that Lenovo offers. There are alot of nice features these machines have. I love how the keyboard feels, how I could just take out the keys and clean em and not have to worry much about replacing the whole unit. I am tempted to spill liquid on my keyboard to show everyone its ruggedness. Another thing I disliked about laptops were trackpads, I need a mouse but the trackpoint is so much more useful then trackpads.

After about 8 months I wanted to get RAM for my x61t because not knowing what I had gotten just a 2GB XGA model. So I went off to ebay again to buy ram, but seeing such a good deal I bidded on an x61s with 4GB and viola got it. There wasn't too much information but it came with a power adapter a 7200RPM 120GB which I did not expect (much better then what my x61t came with, a 5400RPM HDD). It works well for having some cracks in the body, I love how small it is too, thinking of buying a 4cell battery just because I want that portability and bragging rights. That machine was another reason to try out Linux like OS, so tried Ubuntu and now Xubuntu, thus I'm slowly learning. The thinklight is amazing, nifty little light.

I wasn't too sure if these laptops would of been made well by Lenovo. Because it was a pc company I had not known and based in China, I had thought that, they were cheap and not great. However I was very wrong with this way of thinking, these x61's are great laptops. I wont stop boasting about them with my friends and family. I am a Thinkpad addict. I am very please to be part of this forum and very happy one like this exists. Very very resourful this place is.

Don't!
You'll lose your bragging rights!
An accidental (small) spill would probably not do much or any harm, if you clean up immediately.
But pouring liquid over it just to show off?

So I starter to clear off some of my older series laptops. Sold a t61 14 wide and t61 14 non-wide on ebay.

most of these guys have bad batteries, so I order a few new aftermarket ones. Got a bunch more t61 to go..

I figure Ill sell like 4-5 of the older system and get a 17" desktop replacement. I started using my t61 15 with 1920x1200, its great but my eyes are getting bad.

First laptop I ever owned was a Apple PowerBook 540c - used.
I fixed macs for a living at the time, repair cost was too high so customer sold it to me and bought a new one.
I of course could get parts at cost and didn't have to pay labor.

Second was a Thinkpad 600 bought used, I slapped Debian on it.
Been Thinkpad ever since. That 600 lasted a long time, mainly used for ssh.
My T20 I bought used, had two batteries for it and upgraded the memory and HD and the replaced the keyboard.

I used the hell out of it, and finally retired it when fixing mom's Dell (bad hard drive) and PATA drives were difficult to find, so she got the one I had in my T20 (which was bigger and faster).

Going without a laptop was harder than I thought, even with my tablet, so last March I bought a T520 - I love it. Only gripe is the screen size, the wide size comes in handy when I want to watch a Bluray on it - I've done that less than 5 times.

I just aquired a T410 - the screen size is better, it probably will become my main unit. Wish it was higher resolution, I'd like 1080 vertical, but the laptop itself is a more reasonable physical size for portable use than the T520. It is running Fedora 18.

I have upgrade plans for it - SSD, full 8GB, and the current PATA will probably become /home in the UltraSlim bay once the SSD is installed.
If it is possible to get a screen with same physical dimensions but higher resolution I might do that, depending on the cost (it's 1440x900 now)

-=-
Anyway, don't have the collection some have, but I really like the T series design. I hope they don't change it too much.
ThunderBolt would be a nice change though :D

I've recently become one  I love the look of them so much, as well as the build/keyboard quality (as a programmer, even an amateur, it makes a big difference).

I've owned a LOT of computers, especially for my age, and normally move through them quickly in phases. I've owned HPs, MSIs, Asus's, Acer's, etc in various categories, including higher-end gaming laptops and at least 5 netbooks. I've custom built three desktops for gaming. I've also owned two Macbook Pros, a MacBook unibody, a MacBook Air, and an iMac.

I am a very minimalistic person, and don't care to own more than two computers at a time. I don't own a "tablet" (in the new sense of the word) but an e-reader. I got a Thinkpad back in December for the first time. I liked it, but I parted ways with it to get something a little more light weight (a netbook). However, I recently decided I wanted a tablet/laptop hybrid to do art with and bring to school. Searched ebay, saw a ThinkPad and a HP 2730p. I heard good things about the 2730p but ThinkPads just look so awesome, plus it had a better screen (see my signature). The ThinkPad is the first computer series I've ever wanted a second version of specifically.

I already know my next ThinkPad will be a X20xT in 2-3 years. Probably will sell off the one I have coming at that point.

Recently, I just the withdrawal symptoms based on a long term work relationship,
caused by the poor Lenovo decisions - (to word it without expletives) -
by removing many useful Thinkpad qualities.
(quality in build and service, 4:3, high DPI IPS, classic keyboard without Windows keys, ... you name it)

The lastest addition is a wonderful T43p IPS UXGA, SATA modded by RBS. :)
There it comes again, I think I am going to have a relapse.

We should establish the "Anonymous Thinkpadders" here.
I already bougt one MacBook Pro, and a Retina MBP will follow in mid term, just to prove I am not addictive.

I pretty much think I am. 10 years Thinkpad user now, I didn't have other brands laptops; I didn't have many Thinkpads (and I'm not a collector) but after the first Thinkpad I knew that the next one it had to be a Thinkpad. And so. I carry my laptop with me everywhere. I don't plan to buy any other brand, they are ugly things or ugly things without trackpoint. I'm a trackpoint user.

How can you not be? They are great machines, timeless. A 6 year old 2000+ dollar machine (when new) for under a couple hundred bucks. As many spare parts available as you could ever want. The "business" part drives down used prices (supply/demand) but you can get a much nicer machine in comparison to a second hand dell/hp/whoever else for your money.

I started just over a year ago with a 15$ T20. So many machines now, I do not know what to do with them all. I am even setting up a new office desk specifically for my addiction.

Sad or not?

Yeah I'm finding that out the hard way. Talk about falling off the Thinkpad cliff. This site is not helping with the addiction one bit. Not that I'm complaining though.

Could be, but they are easy to stack. The vast majority of my laptop collection are Thinkpads with DELL, Toshiba, Gateway, NEC, and a few Apple, Tandy and Compaq mixed in. Thinkpads (old ones anyway) are just easy to work on, find parts for, and are more reliable then most other brands. I would have gone nuts if I only collected Apple laptops for instance.
