Why can't I play copy-protected DVDs on my Edge 535?

#1 Post by BlueEdge » Wed Dec 18, 2013 10:34 am

My E535 has been working pretty well so far, but I have a problem when I attempt to play DVD movies from my library. Regardless of whether I use WMP or Corel DVD I get an error message that "copy protected material cannot be played in your DVD environment" or that I need to update drivers and/or media player settings. But Windows says my drivers are all up to date and the settings in control panel for the DVD-RW appear to be correct. Other non-protected disks play okay (such as ones I received from a school training program), and some movies will play okay.

The weird part is that I can play any of these offending DVDs just fine in my 8-year-old Dell desktop that's running XP and an older version of WMP.

Any ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance.

I do not know why you are having this problem. Corel DVD should work.

What I always do is install k-lite codec pack in Windows. Usually all video works after that. You could also try Videolan.org's VLC player.

You could also try VLC Portable for the DVD play back. Since it is portable, no installation is necessary to give it a try.

I would check the region code of the drive. Open Device Manager, expand the DVD/CD-ROM drive entry, right-click on the drive, choose Properties and click the Region tab. Should be set to Region 1 (US), assuming that you are also trying to play Region 1 disks.

If that's not the problem, then there must be some sort of digital rights management (DRM) block you're running into.
