Thanks for reminding me to do the monthly purchase of spare parts for my old models.

All that work in comparison to removing a single screw on several earlier models?!

Sheesh.

And just look at how thin and weak that plastic looks, It may look decent on the outside, but you don't have to do much to expose how cheaply it's made.

This review:

Mentions that the new cheap looking PLASTIC HDD caddy is not sold separately, I'm not sure, but it doesn't look very "reusable" to me.

I'm certain that Chinese gray market will take care of that in no time...

With that said...

Years ago, when I acquired my first Panasonic CF-R4 - a 2lb machine with 10.4" XGA panel and ULV PM CPU - I was absolutely appalled at the amount of dismantling required to install a (missing) hard drive.

Now in their quest for "thin & light" ThinkPads have taken the same route BUT we have yet to see a 2lb ThinkPad.

Interesting that its now the bottom of the laptop is removable to get to components rather than the palmrest and keyboard...

That prying out process looks horrible, seemed like the fan wanted to pry out with the bottom!

So, in an era where hard drives have the size and looks of a RAM module... one would have to go through all that?! :|
A 4 minutes 36 seconds demonstration video, where 36 seconds would have sufficed few generations earlier?
This makes perfect sense.

I take laptops apart as part of my daily job of maintaining & repairing & yes some of them are god awful to maintain. I have seen Acers with 30+ screws just to get to the cooling fan!! It's ridiculous. I just hope they don't go down the Apple sealed route, that just makes life miserable

What?! 2 latches must be held on just to remove the battery? It'll not be convenient for those with batteries that are flush with the surface.
Another reason not to get the new generation of Thinkpads.
