That looks really thick, and it looks 17".

And the guy who they quoted is apparently an extreme overclocker (like, phase change cooling and liquid nitrogen). I wonder what he actually runs as his personal machine, and I'm suddenly wondering if we're talking about Lenovo going full Clevo here, and sticking a 95 watt desktop part in.

Very, very interesting. Thank you for posting this.

A tiny glimmer of hope that my next system will not be a Clevo...

There's trackpad buttons.

And now I'm wondering how it actually "leapfrogs" the competition.

I am keeping an eye on this and maybe it's a new workstation based on the Skylake CPU, with a 17" screen or 15.6" screen.

I am kind of wondering what the dark square is by the number pad. Is it a finger print reader? If so, it's kind of big.

Take care,
John

that is a new fingerprint reader, similar to fingerprint reader on new mobile phones. Regarding 17 inches machine rumor... :)

It seems that Lenovo is going to break their own record - this time they'll release 17" ULV workstation with new functionality - INSTANT-THROTTLING™®. Imagine CPU running constantly on 800 MHz - this way you'll feel really RETRO

Believe me I'd really love to see that, but so far the last ThinkPad I found useful and usable was/is x201. Every newer unit I had didn't last long: T420 due to poor material quality, T430 due to keyboard and T540p due too poor keyboard and lack of usable pointer interface (all 3 units shared same flaw - screen aspect ratio). M4800 isn't perfect either but for now there's only one unit on which I'd like to switch to - M6800 - due to its absolute screen estate.

And for all my daily needs my FrankenPad is fast enough TBH even if i have to deal with horrendous piece of german software engineering - a.k.a Siemenses TIA Portal  .

Looks like it's not a W-series, but rather a P-series: https://twitter.com/VictorRios_VT/statu ... 0063470592

Also, Intel's announced the Xeon E3-1500M v5 family: http://blogs.intel.com/technology/2015/ ... ebook-pcs/

However, I'd expect everyone to use those parts in their workstation laptops...

Almost ten years ago, Intel put out one single model ULV Xeon (codename Sossaman). Those days I thought, "Oh goody, laptop with Xeon inside are around the bend, next year or next week, MacBook Pro and ThinkPad with Xeon inside, I look forward to it!". But those days, I was a stupid fanatic lover of Intel.

It's also worth noting that the Sossaman parts were only ever intended for blade server applications, and they were just dual socket versions of the Core Duos anyway. Remember, this was back when "Xeon" basically meant "two sockets", you wouldn't usually run one in a single-socket system, you'd run a Pentium 4/D instead.

Maybe by trying to re-implement old T6x features found in thinkpads that are still not found anywhere else? INNOVATION!
"Here at Lenovo our engineers discovered that keyboards with taller key caps allow a more natural feel that perfectly flat chiclet keys, so we're unleashing this new technology that allows touch typing on a laptop for the first time. Also we discovered that implementing blue enter keys and grey function keys allow for easier visual distinguishing-- this new technology has never been implemented before and we're excited to see it for the first time in 2020."

Sarcasm aside...

Yeah ;) More presisely T4x but yes this is funny ;)
We have a saying - the new is well forgotten old. So the 10 years (T43 was built in 2005) is the "Event Horizon" of our memory.
Pokrzept wrote:INSTANT-THROTTLING™®.
Funny. But 5557U can do 28W like P9700 in T400 era (the new is well forgotten old).

I am curious about this new behemoth too, but i think it is 16" if the aspect ratio is still 16:9.

IMHO - non swipe FP reader have weaker security (in theory any FP reader can't give absolutely secure means of authentication). If the fingerprint can "stick" to FP reader surface it can be used to bypass security system.

BTW
Am i need to register in twitter to read this tweets about this behemoth?

keyboard wise, i don't think it would be 7 rows (if that is what you are getting at). While resolution wise, given that the W541 and W550s has 3K IPS option, i would think something on that line.
