I'm not sure that's a middle scroll button - on the Dells that I support, the one for the pointing stick is for scrolling, the one for the trackpad is for middle-clicking, and you use two-finger scrolling (like a Mac) on the trackpad.

I can't speak to the software for the Dells, but the Synaptics hardware used in HP workstations have software to assign them either way. My preferred configuration is to disable the touchpad while retaining the use of the lower button set, thus getting left, right, middle, and scroll buttons. When I started using CAD software on a daily basis on it, middle click became a necessity for panning/zooming (combined with right click) if I didn't have my trackball and 3D mouse with me.bhtooefr wrote:I'm not sure that's a middle scroll button - on the Dells that I support, the one for the pointing stick is for scrolling, the one for the trackpad is for middle-clicking, and you use two-finger scrolling (like a Mac) on the trackpad.

I'd have to get an M4800 in front of me to verify what options are available, but you can definitely disable the pad independently of the buttons.
In other news, there's some conflicting images.
This is apparently a P70 motherboard: http://www.notebookcheck.net/fileadmin/ ... 18a87d.jpg
Note the rather weak cooling solution, and what looks like a soldered GPU.
However, this shows a much beefier cooling solution (under Reliability), and what's very clearly a MXM-B GPU (under Performance): https://www.thinkworkstations.com/thinkpad/
Also, two long M.2 slots are shown on that 3D tour.

No, that's the motherboard of the P50 (you can identify it easily because there is only one Thunderbolt 3 port and the ExpressCard slot isn't located between two USB ports).bhtooefr wrote:This is apparently a P70 motherboard

Ah, right. Now it makes sense.
That cooling solution still isn't particularly beefy, but at least it makes a lot more sense.

I watched the video on Thinkscopes... the power brick was briefly visible but I couldn't get a good look. Does anyone know the size/weight of the 170W adapter that will come with these? Is it the same as the current 170W supply (4X20E50574: 1.8x3.0x6.1", 1.32lbs)? Would be nice if one could use a smaller power adapter, although the i7-6700HQ has a TDP of 45W, M2000M is supposed to be 65W, the panel is probably 10-15W, need some power for charging... I guess 170W is about right.

Are you sure those are power bricks (in the picture)? I thought that was some kind of stackable peripheral system (or maybe a whole stackable PC)... they're sitting in front of a box that appears to show them stacking on top of each other.

Yeah....looks very interesting...
and for me....the biggest advantage...of the P70...ultrabay....and....quite like the P50, too, ethernet port and power port on the backside...this is simply GREAT!
I don't even like any machines with this ports on the right or left side...so i did my decision and chose T410s and T420s..to be my actual machines.

Should be able to pick one up for what you pay for a used W520 today. Or maybe even a T520.
With the island keyboard though, I won't be buying one. Too bad they don't give you an upgrade choice of which keyboard you want.

Nice hardware.
Why is it that OEM's cannot curve the front edge of the laptop anymore? My T410 has a nice curve on the front lower edge by the trackpad buttons which allows my wrists to rest comfortably on the machine. Every Dell I have used since the D630 has had square edges and they hurt your (my) wrists after about 20 minutes. It looks like there is "slight" curving on the P50/70 chassis but from the photo's it still looks mostly square to me.

High-end Quadros are always ridiculous -- unless you really need them.
Quadro M5000M is a $2500 upgrade over the base model; i.e. costs more than the base model itself.
64GB memory is $840 (or for comparison with previous post, 32GB is $360), Xeon CPU is $440, and 4k screen is $510.
Roughly equivalent Precision 7710 is a lot cheaper though; M5000M is only $1200, 4k IGZO is only $170. Xeon upgrade is a bit more than Lenovo though since base model CPU is weaker. Dell's memory upgrades are also a lot less. Really need to see a review comparing equivalent configurations. (HP's ZBook 17 G3 doesn't seem to be available yet.)

Re: Looks like a new W7xx (edit: 17" P70, and P50 replacing W541) is coming out? (small pics)
I really do wish Lenovo would come out with another dual screen model like the W70*ds. But with such emphasis on thinness in todays electronics market and the availability of 4k displays, I highly doubt it.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53
