is there any thinkpad like notebooks out there?

#1 Post by alitahriki2 » Sat Dec 19, 2015 6:27 am

hi everyone
i need to upgrade my t420, but due to lates changes lenovo made to keyboard t430/t440 is not suitable for me. i almost utilize every key on this keyboard and i cannot understand why theyre reducing number of keys? really cant make any sense of it
i need same build quality, ive checked dell latitude but their keyboard doesnt looks enough for me. and i failed to create an ultimate t420 with an intel nuc board (couldnt managed to fit it in t420 chassis)
do you know any alternatives to this? main reason i want to upgrade gpu is too slow and second gen core i5 is not powerfull enought to run applications i need (mainly netbeans and intellijidea)

Best bet?
A W520 with i7-quad-core CPU, nVidia Quadro 2000M GPU, up to 4x8=32GB RAM and FHD screen.

I share your sentiments about the keyboards on x30 and later models. Most of the use of my T430 gets is on a desk, so I have found somewhat of a compromise by using an external mechanical switch keyboard with it. If you do a lot of desk work, it might be an option to consider if you want to go with a newer Thinkpad and have a workable keyboard design.

you can use a quadcore processor, even though it might get a bit hot.

if you use a quad core, disabling the nvidia could make the temperature near acceptable, or if your laptop doesn't have nvidia, you can try to use the bigger heatsink for the nvidia model.

and for the gpu , you can use egpu.

there is also an experinmental bios upgrade that might allow you to run a newer processor , and ivy bridge processor, which is much more power efficient and produce a bit less heat, and have a better iGPU.
