Removing Lenovo logos off clearplates/badges *pictures*

Some don't care about logos very much, but I've always found the extra 'lenovo' logos on the clearplates / LED badges distracting. Don't know why I didn't think about it before, but they're really quite easy to remove.

Step #1 peel off the badge / purchase the badge from wherever (there's a lot of retailers for these on ebay)
Step #2 flip it upside down to expose the underside
Step #3 get an x-acto knife and scrape away the coating until it's completely transparent:

It'll look like this when you turn it the other way around:

Step #4 get some black paint (I would recommend rustoleum universal satin black) and spray paint over the underside of the clear area to fill it up
Note: when painting over the transparent area I would HIGHLY recommend you tape the clearplate to some paper so that the spray paint doesn't get on the front face, and don't forget to cover up the LED windows too. If it does / immediately wipe with isopropyl alcohol.
And here is the end result:

Looks like it was made that way ;)
Because the plastic is frosted, it's virtually impossible for any imperfections to come through.

For the pure minimalist, you could remove the ThinkPad model number too; or take it a step further and remove everything.

That is awesome! I always hated the lenovo badging on these clearplates. They are cluttered enough with all the indicator lights. Early T60 models did come with clearplates without the lenovo badging, but they are relatively rare.

Nice model M keyboard, too.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53

Yeah, it's impossible to find NOS T60p badges that lack the logo these days. Furthermore, I wanted to use a T61 badge due to the mobo being a T61 in a T60 after all (none of which were made without the lenovo logo afaik). But now I can with that simple procedure.

You can just use a sharpie to cover it up, but that's still distracting in its own right since it shines differently at certain angles.

Terrific idea!
All I would like to know now is how to add a Bluetooth symbol on it and how to change T60 into T61 or T601...

Possibly with a DIY transfer made with a laser printer, or a custom order for Letraset.

Simply scratch off the T60/T61 label, print out a 'T601p' label with a printer against a pure black background, attach it to the back (spray paint any areas that aren't covered), done.

Beautiful job! :D

I had toyed with doing the same for the LONGEST time, but I'm glad I didn't have to be the guinea pig.

Now if you can only figure out a way to deal with the separate "lenovo" inset logos on the LCD covers... ;)

To deal with the 'lenovo' bezel logos on the newer thinkpads, you'd need to use some sort of filler that can be painted and hardens nicely. Then you'd need to repaint the whole top lid so it looks consistent and like nothing ever happened. A gentle wet sanding may be required prior to paint application.

Haha, this is like an inverse of 'Lenovo day' when Lenovo employees ripped off the IBM badges off of their ThinkPads. But I am biased in that if a ThinkPad doesn't have the capacity to say 'IBM', it probably suffers from issues of unconventional redesign that hinder business and power users.

Stensils - remove the paint craft the stensil with the symbols then spray.

I just experimented with a Lenovo T60 clearplate.
Scratched off the word Lenovo and then used a black Pentel N850 Permanent Marker with bullet tip.
If you do the scratching properly, then a few "layers" of marker does the trick almost (95-98%) as good as the spray job!

Thank you for the tip!
Just tried it with a black marker (like RBS said) and it worked like a charm :)

I've done the quick 'n dirty way since day one - electrical tape over the infamous lettering.

That would be a gooey mess in no time.

With age, this would likely crack, or expand/subside with repeated heating/cooling. Nah, I put that out there as the near impossible to solve versus your great job with the nameplate. Seriously, I do believe Lenovo designed their logo bezels with our collective opinion and desire in mind. If they could have burned it into the LCD, they might have.

That reminds of the penultimate scene in The Ten Commandments, except Lenovo is the golden calf this time. ;)
