Whats the Atheros equivalent to the Intel 6300 wireless card?

They are more than a little proud of that card. The 6300 can be had for less than $14.00 semi locally.
The Atheros closer to twice that.
I put a 4965 in because I had it.

Dig a pinch deeper and you'll find 9380 for $20-21 from within U.S.

I put a 4965 in because I had it.

Fair enough, but that's a hot-running card in most scenarios.

In my trialing of them the 6300 was hotter than the Atheros AR9382 AR5BHB116 and I couldn't distinguish between them on any performance metrics.

Am testing a Atheros AR9485 AR5B125 now.

Go with AR9380.

Currently running a AR9380 in a T500 with Win 7. Had a heck of a time finding the right drivers but now that I do, it's better than any Intel wifi that I've used (6200/6300N). I'm liking this card.

I have always preferred the Atheros. They seem to lock on faster, give better speed and better range. Got hooked on them from thee T30 forward.

My router is 2x2 and has one antenna. It serves 2-3 users.
Sometimes the wifi 'locks up' and I was hoping two users could be served if they were limited to 1x1:1 cards.

2x2 means your router should have 2 antennas. Just get mid to high end range routers to fix your problem. I had cheap router that was constantly a hassle by manual reboots and slow and that is serving 1 wireless computer and serve occasional 2nd wireless computer. Rarely 3rd. And served 1 wired 24hr a day sometimes used 2rd wired computer as well.
