T440s WWAN
T440s WWAN
Maybe a dumb question, but I'm not super knowledgeable about these units.
I have a T440s with the internal slot filled with a WWAN card. If I want to install an internal M2 SSD what happens to my wifi capabilities by removing the WWAN card?

Re: T440s WWAN
Nothing will happen to your WLAN (wifi) card as it sits next to the WWAN slot. The WWAN slot is the M2 slot. Looks simple enough to install a M2 SSD.
Re: T440s WWAN
But isn't the WWAN card removed to install the M2 SSD? Doesn't this mean WWAN is no longer available?

Re: T440s WWAN
Yes because you only have 1 WWAN slot. If you use this slot for a M2 SSD you obviously can't use it for anything else.

Re: T440s WWAN
Just to clarify:
WLAN is wifi.
WWAN is GSM/CDMA/3G/4G cellular data.
Generally, WLAN cards are separate from WWAN cards. So you can remove/change one without bothering the other.
In newer laptops, the WWAN slot also doubles as a slot for SSDs (mSATA for T420/430, M.2 for T440 and later). This means you can have WWAN or SSD, but not both at the same time.

Re: T440s WWAN
OK, so the WWAN is used for cell phones [mine is so 19th C, it flips open]. What has that to do with my laptop?

Re: T440s WWAN
The WWAN card allows you to use cellular data services (3G/4G) without needing a cellphone. You need to install a SIM (if you us a GSM-based carrier like AT&T) in the laptop.
Of course, if you don't even use those features, you can remove the WWAN card and install the M.2 SSD..

Re: T440s WWAN
Since I don't know about "cellular service," I guess that means I can remove the card without changing my life style of being cyber challenged.
Thanks to all from someone who remembers automobiles came from the factory without heaters or radios, and who's first car was a well used 1932 Chevrolet.
