Any advantage to M.2 SSD in T440s as OS drive

#1 Post by RRHODY » Sat Dec 03, 2016 8:04 pm

My T440s main drive is Samsung SATA III 238GB running Win7. Is there an advantage to using the M.2 SSD for the OS?

Absolutely not.

This generation of ThinkPads is limited to the 2242 version of M2, and there is a *lot* more to choose from in the "conventional" SSD market, if one is considering an upgrade or anything along those lines.

Perhaps not from a performance perspective, but using a M.2 SSD for the OS would allow you to put in a much larger platter drive for storage, where speed is not as important and it'll cost a lot less per GB than a SSD. The 7mm drive the T440s uses go up to 2TB in size. That's what I have in my Latitude.

They are limited to 2242, not 2280. There are many 2280 M.2 SSDs, 2242 is the formfactor that is limited in SSD-choice, because its mainly used for network cards.

This is what caffeine deficiency does when one gets old. Thanks for correcting me.
